I agree. Most of the issues are either covered in the owners manual, or have been covered 100 times on the forum already. I have no solution for the people that won't open their owner's manual... but:
I think that someone needs to "clean out" the Gen 5/6 forum so that it's more user friendly and doesn't have so many useless or repeated posts. It's to the point where the search button can at times, be completely useless. (Because a search will pull up 17 pages of absolute crap before actually getting to the post that answers the question).
In addition, many people simply reply to someone that they should "search". This is adding to the problem. 1) the original post gets added to the search results when someone else actually searches.
2) When someone else actually searches and sees the post (along with tons of other posts just like it), they'll click on it... get frustrated that they didn't get an answer, so they'll simply post the stinkin' question again... and the cycle repeats.
For example: Search for:
"Flare" = 17 pages of posts, mostly useless. (Despite the sticky- which most people don't see)
"Wheels" = 17 pages of posts, mostly useless.
"HID" = 17 pages of posts, again- mostly useless.
"brakes" = 17 pages of crap.
"JBL" = 17 pages of more crap.
"Oil Change" = 17 pages of crap.
Yes, some of those are vague search terms, but it's what people actually search for.
I think a better solution is to simply answer people's question politely... and then politely remind them to use the search button next time. Eventually, the new posts (that actually answer the questions) will be the first things that pop up when someone searches, and hopefully that will result in less repetitive posts for the same old stuff. I know it's easier just to call someone lazy... but in all honesty, we sometimes have a habit of making a bad impression upon new members because we're not always as welcoming as we should be. (Who knows, we all started as newbies, and eventually newbies can, theoretically, become old and wise... just like some of the members on this forum who've been around for years.)
