Where is the flasher module located, same as Camry?

I searched and couldn't find a related thread, thus the new topic.

Where is the flasher module (blinker module for turn signals) located? It is inside the dash on the Camry, is it in the same spot, and same part for us?

I am looking into installing switch back LEDs in the forward facing amber location, and I don't want to deal with load resistors. I'd like to just change out the flasher module.

Thanks Bob.

Is it the same module the Camry uses?

Do I need to take anything apart to get to it (like the Camry), or can I get to it from the footwell of the drivers area?

It looks like you can access it if you remove he lower dash panel just over the fot well.....and reach up.... I had to take this panel off to install my BluLogic madule and microphone lead. . I didn't notice the PN to compare. to camry. Take your time - the panel is very thin plastic.

Did you ever figure out which one the flasher unit is? I am also interested in installing some switch backs.

I ended up using 6 ohm load resistors. I went this route instead of the flasher module, because (all things considered) its easier. Also, when you switch to the led flasher module you lose the flash of the exterior lights when you arm/disarm the car. They are simple to install and just as easy to remove, almost without a trace. If you decide to change out the rear turns at a later date (in addition to the fronts), all you need to do is swap the 6 ohm for the 3 ohm. You can leave them in the same place in the engine bay as the car reads the current draw per side.

If you decide to go with the led flasher module, I think it's in the behind the instrument cluster as it is on the Camry. I can fish up the link to the Camry "how to" tonight if you'd like to see it.

Good luck!

When you install the load resistors, do they jump between the black and light green wires or the black and dark green? I don't know which color is for the signal and which is for the park functions. I guess I could get out my meter and figure it out, but since you have already done it, asking is easier!

Also, where and how did you mount the load resistors? Any photos would be very helpful.

Is the load resistor just plug n play? Please take pictures of install thanks!

Here's a few photo's of the Switchbacks. I disconnected the headlights for the pictures to give them more visual impact. They obviously taken during the day and have much more impact at night. I hope to take a few night shots with the headlights on. The are both 5k (Whites) and match perfectly. Just being rid of the amber bulb up front (when they are off) made a huge difference to me. My preference is to have my headlights as clear as possible.

I wish these were our DRL's and the 9005 was just for the high beam. I know there is a way to make this happen, but I'm not sure how to do it. Does anyone know?

Looks very clean. You should get some plastic caps and paint them your body color for the license plate bolt.s.

Light green is the parking light, black is ground (of course), passenger side turn signal is pink, drivers side turn signal is dark green. This likely goes without saying, but you'll want to add load to the pink/black (passenger side), and the dark green/black (drivers side). I either got lucky with my load resistors, or they aren't polarized, because I paid no attention to what side of the resistor was going to the ground, etc..

Here are a few pictures. The pictures were only taken from the passenger side because the battery limits access to the drivers side. I guess I didn't mount the resistor to the frame on the passenger side, I used the flat surface in front of the wheel well (I'm not sure if this is the correct terminology when referring to the wheel well in the engine bay. I actually googled it, to no avail :) )

For a start, see the sticky thread by bigcsorren titled Venza LED...
Here, you will see that see some bulbs are just plug and play, but turn signals are different.

Be careful buying LED DRL bulbs as some of them are too big in diameter to actually fit into the bulb housing. Look at the V-LED site, their bulbs are expensive, $50-$60 a pair for DRL's, but they guarantee they will fit.

Hello again,

Now that the front switchbacks are working, I'm thinking I'd like to cut off the DRLs and just use the lights as high-beams. I think I should be able to just cut the proper wire and the DRLs would be cut out, but the high-beams would still function. Does this sound possible to you? And do you know which wire I need to cut?

Thanks

I remember you can pull a relay in the gen. 1 highlanders to bypass the DRL. You would need to look at the wiring diagram to see if it's still possible.

Another way is to use Toyota Techstream. I disabled the Venza DRL using this method.

Thank you

What I'd like to do is keep the DRL functioning, cut the wire, and use it to power some add-on LEDs for different (whiter) DRLs. in the lower intake area of the front bumper. I am assuming (maybe I'm wrong) that I can cut the proper wire to do that and still have the high beam part of the light turn on for that function. Do you know the electrical wiring to tell me if I can do that?

Thanks Lburton

Hello again

After thinking this over, I understand your suggestion better, so I'd like to try to access TechStream to deactivate the DRLs. How do I access TechStream? I don't see it in my manual.

Techstream is a 3rd party computer program meant to run on a hand held device used by Toyota techs. However, there are places that sell the software and cable so it can be installed on a laptop. I bought it like 3 years ago and at that point in time it only ran on XP, but I think there is a Win7 version available now. It was not an easy program to get installed and running, we discussed that here auto-closing-function, maybe the new version is easier. Just Google Techstream and you should find it on eBay for around $20. You will need the 16 pin version, not the 22 pin cable.
