Two videos I’ve made on YouTube with useful information for WHEN not “if” your panoramic roof s**ts the bed.

I am rarely on this forum, posting for archiving purposes and a reference point. Find me on Facebook I’m on about 5 different 2018-2024 Camry Groups. Nick Prescott…. “The Roof Slayer”

Appreciate the insight on panoramic roofs, glass removal, and rail work. Sorry, you have encountered problems twice but you took the initiative to self-repair as being a proactive individual.

I've read and also watched some other YouTube videos about the malfunction and costs. Initially was $12K and then Toyota dropped it down to $7K as there were numerous repairs to them. I have a 2023 Camry XSE V6 (8th Gen. XV70 refreshed/revision 2) where Toyota claims to have improved and somewhat resolved the panoramic roof problems along with a few other mechanical issues that were on the 2018 to 2020 Camry.

I had Toyota Dealership Tech use Toyota Techstream software to change the settings in the Camry ECM to permit the windows and panoramic roof to roll down/open using the Key FOB. However, to roll up/close the windows and panoramic roof must insert the key into the door as it was demonstrated in this here video. Cost $0 when you have your next Service appt. as I have the 2 yr./25Kmile Toyota Care, just ask to have it done. Don't let them charge you for a 5-minute up to 10-minute task.

Panoramic roof preventative maintenance is required.
Keeping the channels clear of debris, cleaning it nearly spotless to the metal, and making note of where the old lubricant was before completely removing the old lube. The type of lubricant used can be white lithium grease but I prefer not to use, the $40 Dupont MOLYKOTE® G-1033 Grease, or DeoxIT’s L260-DN1 grease a small tube is $7 and larger up to $30 - I use this.
Never use WD-40. Apply a light coat of lubricant fingernail thick as using an Acid Brush works great, easier than using your finger.
Items needed are nitrile gloves, paper towels, q-tips, a vacuum, an air compressor if you have one, a small toothbrush or soft test tube bristle brush, a dozen Soft pipe cleaners for cleaning out the rear channel, a mild degreaser, a few Acid brushes, painter masking tape as do not want to get anything on the car paint or interior such as headliner and a drop cloth or large leaf trash bag or something to place over the car seats.
Last, water or windshield washer fluid to know whether or not the drains are clear. Pour water into the channel and allow it to flow and drain. If the drain is clogged using Weedwacker line aka trimmer line .080 or .095 as may need 5 foot length or buy the 2.3M Car Sunroof Drain Dredge Pipe Cleaning Brush Dredging Brush Flexible Tool at Walmart store for $10 the drain runs through the door pillars to the rocker panel. Do Not force the line down, using the dull non-pointed side, push slowly as do not want to break the tubing made of super thin rubber. There are 2 drain holes, front and rear on each side of the roof. Importantly, Do Not use compressed air into the Drain Holes as may blow out/separate the tube in the Door Pillar, and then water will travel inside the car cabin and onto the floor.

for the outer rubber seal around the panoramic roof I use Sonax 03401000 Rubber Protectant GummiPfleger, 3.38 fl. oz. , black also on the door seals/gaskets.

Thanks again for creating the video. Your TRD looks Kool! with the racing stripes.
must have repainted the wheels white to maintain a complementary color.
Happy New Year 2024

There was none / zero changes to the model number for the panoramic roof in 2021. I have personally fixed 5 of them now for other folks in person and about 25-30 I’ve done remotely. Half of which were 2021+ the preventative maintenance is clutch for sure but not everyone is going to do that and there is zero literature in the owners manual on it. I’ve owned my XV70 since Jan ‘18 I’ve seen hundreds of these fail along the way… I’ve never seen a repair bill eclipse $12k though … they started in the $7k range pre-pandemic and have ballooned to about $11k being the average right now. (Jan 24) I have sunk a stupid amount of money into my car at this point… none a penny into the panoramic roof though….. the current wheel setup is 19x8.5 +35mm Work Emotion Cr Kwami (white) on Yokohama ADVAN Apex V601 rubber.. . My car is an XSE V6 with full TRD parts swap upgrading only the springs to Eibachs , all performance mods are custom (intake, exhaust, motor mount braces) done by me and tuned by D3 performance on e85 ethanol fuel making close to 350 whp at 148k mi still on stock water pump and spark plugs… I’ve done every single bit of parts, maintenance, and repairs to the vehicle myself sparing no expense using only OEM when parts have been needed and upgrading where I saw fit… I’ve done about 200lbs of weight reduction to the car and always look for more ways to shave some more time off in the 1/4 mi… currently on the edge of cracking into 12 sec times may already even be there just waiting through winter downtime to get back to the track ultimately I will 💯 be removing my panoramic roof and I’ll make a detailed video when that day comes… for now I’ll just keep re-engineering and fixing it as I will never stop using it while it’s on the car… it’s been a learning experience and I’ve thought about getting an LLC started and hitting up all of the local dealerships to offer 3rd party break / fix / repairs on them. I am that confident I can fix ANY problem with them at this point.

Great Info on the Pano!

Why are you going to remove the pano? Weight reduction?

I have wondered about how much extra high weight is added by the pano compared to a plain roof.
Do you have any idea about this after your vast experience working with these panos?
200 lbs of weight reduction is a great achievement. How much of that is due to wheels & tires?
Is your 12v battery in the trunk or still under the hood? Maybe for drag times you want the front weight due to FWD. I was thinking about the handling.

Have a great day & thanks for posting.
