Or is there a limiter?
I've never before seen a family car with a speedo that goes above 140.

I've seen them blasting down 580 a 70 and 80 mph easy. Heck, my old dog Corolla can do 90 all day as long as you stay outta the way. Doncha love that 85 speed limiy through Wyoming! I remember back in 1957, when my friend's parents got a new Buick and the spedo went up to 120, arguing that my folks' old Dodge had 120 on the speedo too. Our fathers were wise enough to not race on the primitive highways back then. Sooooo whaaaat.

Y'all should ride along in my 1/4 century old rotted out 3speed Corolla with 137k doing 95mph on the i80 speedway
WOW is it noisy!!! Just screaming along sitting right on top of the pavement, if I have the driver window down a couple few inches it cancels the road noise a bit lol

Would get the 06 Camry easily up to 110 + on my many cross-country trips for a short time. The speed limit in Texas and South Dakota in some places is 85, some drive 5 to 10 over.

The main thing to take into consideration for safety is the speed rating of your tires. Most passenger cars like the Camry or Avalon have a maximum tire speed rating (T) witch translated to 130MPH. You will only be able to get a higher speed-rated tire if you have a high-performance sports car or upgrade to a larger rims size that will accommodate wider tires but of course, they will need to fit inside the wheel wells.

These 140-180 speedos are really dumb on family type cars.
It's really frustrating with the speedo being nearly useless when there "this much" ( [-|-|-|-] ) space between 50 and 70mph.
I'm not advocating going back to the late 70s when speedos were limited to 85 and had a big red "55" at the top middle of the panel... But 120mph speedos were just fine all through the heyday of muscle cars and hotrods.

Make TRD versions that go to 200 for those who order off-highway exempt models with no speed limiter and performance tune. I'd like to actually be able to use my speedo.

Yes, I did 100 on some stretches of California highway, speed limit is 70 but you can do it briefly. So it definitely goes there with no problem. But I would not recommend anyone to try anything close to 160, whether it goes there or not. It is extremely dangerous, you can have a tire pop or something and will be DEAD in a second. Why would you want to risk it?

I agree that a 160-MPH speedometer is really silly on an Avalon. It’s just calibrated like that to make it “feel sporty” to the detriment of usefulness. However, I never really look at the analog speedometer anyway. Even with the head-up display, my eyes are drawn to the big digits on the center display (I always leave that view in place).

Ya, I glance at the dial every now and then, but really, the speedo, and the hybrid's replacement for the tach aren't of much use, particularly with the digital display on several of the MID screens.
The most silly thing on my Avalon, being a hybrid, is the tach display.
Well, that, and the fact that there are four different "where is the power coming from?" displays... the left analog display, a center graphic of the car, and two options on the infotainment screen.
None of which contribute to safe driving.... they are simply distractions that I can't imagine are even used by anyone who has had the car longer than a month.

But ya... the tach display, and paddle shifters are kinda silly on a hybrid.

But honestly, I really don't pay a lot of attention to my speed unless I'm on the open road... then I'll just set the cruise at 5 over the limit.
Most times I'm just cruising along with the flow of traffic. Driving for over 40 years, you have a feel of the "right" and safe speeds in neighborhoods and around town.

It does have a limiter, I have driven upto 133 mph many times and the limiter kicks in, after 80 the car is a beast and on sports plus mode it stays planted. The original brakes fade immediately as they over heat very quickly, so I added the TRD brakes in front which come with a bigger disc and double piston calipers and have no brake fade problems at all.

"H is rated at 130mph" - my new used offlease 2019 has H rated, I presume they are the stock tires. But they look very new, measures 9/32" of depth in the tread. 45K miles on the clock.

"Paddle shifters with a CVT" -- is that Continously Variable Transmission?

"The original brakes fade immediately as they over heat very quickly, so I added the TRD brakes in front"
- in general, or only from above-85 type speeds? How much did it cost?

Is the "Sport +" mode only on the Touring? Not seeing it on my Limited.
