I brought a used 2018 Camry xle. It has 29k on it. I am assuming it's under the bumper to bumper. I was driving it today and it started bucking bad and missing. I got it off the road and now I get pre collision system failure and emergency brake system failure and a check engine light. I'm having not towed to the Toyota dealership in Winston Salem. Had anyone had a warranty issue and should I be concerned they will try to stick me with a big bill? The cars been perfect for me mechanically and I've out 11k on it since I got it from a private sale.

If the dealership can actually diagnose it as chewed wires from rodent activity (upon an actual inspection- not just playing the 'maybe' game without actually looking at the car)... call your car insurance agent, as it might be covered under your comprehensive coverage. Most people have cheap comprehensive deductibles... so if it ends up being an expensive repair that's not covered under warranty- you might be able to take advantage of your insurance coverage.

I agree with JperrrySS though- a dealership that diagnoses problems without actually looking at a car usually should be avoided. If you get the sense that the dealer was already trying to avoid a warranty claim- I'd go to a different dealer. If you got the impression that the dealer just said it as a "it could be this but we'll have to inspect it first" type of thing, then maybe keep working with them.

If they do claim that it's rodents, make sure you insist that they allow you to take pictures of the damage- including whatever evidence that they used to claim that it was caused by rodents- so that you can submit it to your insurance company.

Making a comprehensive claim has never raised my premiums. Comprehensive claims are generally claims that aren't your fault. Examples include rocks hitting your windshield resulting in replacement or repair, stuff falling on your vehicle while parked, and so on.

I've made a few comprehensive claims- never has it resulted in my premiums going up. I've actually been very fortunate, in my 22 years of driving (all with the same agent/insurance company), I've never been in an accident that was my fault or seen my premiums rise because of a claim- and I've had plenty of claims. My 1st car was rear-ended twice- once pretty badly, I've had two rock stars repaired, two windshields replaced, a hood replaced after a piece of concrete fell off a building and hit it, and a relatively new car totaled after someone ran a red light and t-boned me.

My rates have never been raised because of any of those claims- because none of them were my fault. Living in the city- I also have very good coverage with low deductibles and my rates are pretty good. It helps that my wife is a safe driver with no accidents on her recored either.

If you are in doubt, just call your insurance agent- and they can tell you if a comprehensive claim will raise your rates.

Wait- you've driven it for 11,000 miles without an issue- and with a total of 29,000 miles on the odometer- they said that the factory somehow switched two wires... or someone else did? But it has been driving fine for 11,000 for you?

That's bogus. Either they didn't know what the heck was wrong (and didn't fix anything) or they quietly fixed something and didn't want you to know what it was.

Something is fishy- and the dealer is probably either incompetent or untrustworthy... maybe both. I'd use a different dealer in the future if possible. Save the paperwork to document their "fix" just in case it doesn't solve your issue. You're about 7,000 miles from the bumper-to-bumper warranty expiring (and watch the date too- as it will expire three years from the date that it was originally sold if that happens first). You'll want the documentation to prove that the issue happened before the warranty expired and that you brought it to their attention.

Good luck. Let us know if the issue is really fixed or if it happens again.
