I need help wiring my footwell lights to turn on with the dome lights. So when the door is open/car unlocked, the lights turn on and when the engine starts or the timer is timed out, the lights turn off and so on.

For other people so that they don't make the same mistake I did
I tried tapping the dome fuse and grounding it to the body of the car but this does NOT work because the dome lights are always powered(hot), so doing this will keep the lights on forever or until 20 minutes and the ecu shuts the power to prevent the battery from dying.

Anybody know how to to wire it to the overhead module that controls the map lights? Or maybe through the cables on the A pillar? Any help is appreciated.

I just did this a couple of weeks ago. You have to run 2 wires to the headliner dome light. Just fish the wire up the B post through the headliner to the dome. There are 3 wires that are at the dome. Red, blue and white w/black stripe. Tap the positive of your footwell lights to the red and the negative to the blue. It took me a bit to figure this out using a meter and works perfect. I even added some under the front seats that illuminate for rear passengers. All of my interior lights I replaced with LED:

The easiest way to do this without it being "neat" is just to wire directly to the dome light. I've tried having it done "neat" by attempting to tap into the connector along the a-piller for my 08 Camry. I even tested it beforehand with a multimeter and I didn't believe the results (it didn't work).
