I want to swap a 5sfe from my 95 camry with a 3sfe.. so that i can turbo that later on.. will the 3sfe bolt right in to place or will i have to make costum mounts.... if it does bolt up.. could i just use my old electrical crap?

to the best of my knowlege, since I presume you have a gen3 since you have a 5sfe, you'll need custom mounts to fit the 3sfe on your car.....

you may as well swap to a 3sgte, since you'll have to spend big bucks on the mounts anyway

You won't be able to use any of your electrical "crap" from the 5s, sorry. There are pretty big differences in the wiring between the two motors and two generations of Camrys that they came in.

i don't want to turbo mine bc, if i do i will be harder to find parts, i can get a costum engine job at www.TopEndPerformance.com. but it is 3000 just for engine... i have also herd that the 5sfe is a pussy engine and is not worth rebuilding.. here is a link to a 5sfe turbo.. http://www.poweredbytoyota.com/ssfeturbo.html i am not sayin that it can't be done.. and the engine i ment was the 3sgte.. not 3sfe.. bc the 3sgte is much more giving when it come to power...

well yes there are WORLDS of diffrence from the 3sgte and 3sfe like ge class head which use a different harnet ..... wait why am i typing this SEARCH

and a properly build 5s can do just about as good a job as a 3s just takes a lil more money.

There is nothing pussy about the 5sfe if you do the build correctly. If you try to slap a turbo on and push 20psi you'll soon regret it, but if you do it right then you have no worries. If you want the GE head, then take a 3SGTE Head and have it machined to fit a 5S block, then work your engine harness to power the new head. Either way working what you have is probably the cheaper option since you'll need custom mounts, harnesses, ecu and of course, the new engine itself to do a swap.

hum

I have read that the 3sfe would bolt right in cept for two holes needing to be drilled into the rear ingine mount plate. Seems simple enugh. I want to get the 3sfe also but I think if you put it up to a 3SGTE its already turbocharged and should fit also like everyone else said.

well ok if i do stick with the 5s, i would need forged parts and the only ones i have found run 765 for just pistons.. and 600 for rods.. that is way too much for just that.... i have SEARCHED... every site online that i could find.... i just can't find anything cheaper.... o i have another ?.... i know that converting my auto trans to a mnaual takes alot of work..but would that trans handle all that power... auto and manual.... and were i could find good cv shaft s that could handle all that power...

You gotta pay to play. Good forged pistons and billet rods don't come cheap.

If you can find a set of stock rods from a 3S-GTE, you can use them. However the rod journals on your crankshaft need to be cut down. 3S and 5S rods are the same length, but 5S has larger big end bore.

I would optionally have the rods shot peened and magnafluxed.

ill just buy an engine from the junk yeard and rebuild that... but is there anything i can do to make sure the trans will hold up... i know i can get it rebulit.. but how long would taht last... and are there trans mod even mad for that trans

thanks for all the help...
From what I hear, rebuilding trannies is an art. You have to find a good shop to make sure it will hold up for a while.

don't think i haven't searched.. i have typed in trany, trany load.. max trany load.. and so on.. but all i find is people with trany problems or how to change auto to man... i was just wondering if those who have a turboed camry have upgraded their trany... for cv shafts..

bc one of my boddies has a cvic pushing 330 to the wheels and he has gone through 2 man trans and 2 sets of cv shafts.. i might be a noob but i am not lazy.. i do search.. just lookin for more intel...

thanks for all the help so far

i rarely ever foray into the camry forum anymore, but:

1) search for tranny, not trany
2) if you turbo, just to give you a guideline, if you have a 5SFE, your axles will go to shit after you hit 200hp. If you have an 1MZ auto, somewhere around 320hp you'll go to shit. If you have an E153 manual, IIRC they'll take 400hp
