I recently replaced the head gasket on my alltrac after I overheated the engine accidentally, which is kind of embarrassing but shit happens. I pulled the head off, did everything step by step and put it back together in the order I took it off. I got the timing dialed in and then went on a test drive. Less than 2 miles into the test drive the engine lost all power. I thought i had done something wrong and the engine had jumped timing but that looks fine and the belt is still tight. After further diagnosis I've found I have no fuel and no spark. It cranks just fine and has compression at about 180 on all cylinders. I've read a couple forums, tested every single fuse and relay, tested my igniter, tested for power to the distributor, used the diagnostic port to check if the fuel pump comes on but nothing happens. Only thing out of normal is that my check engine light does not come on when I turn the car on. I've been at this for 2 weeks now and am about to give up.

You should double check your EFI fuse and your EFI relay. It sounds to me like your ECU lost power, which that fuse & relay could cause. Or, you have a ground wire that wasn't reattached properly after your did the head removal and re-installation.

I'm sure I checked them all, but I'll double check this weekend to be triple sure. If that's not the issue then I might try shooting wires and check grounds. If all else fails, I'm planning on an engine swap anyways.

Check the EFI relay especially as above. Critical ground wire is on the back of the intake manifold.

Well, then... nothing will run that way. That means the ECU doesn't have power for some reason. Also check all the plugs under the dash again (if you removed them to take the harness out with the head).

Check the wiring harness behind the engine where it drops from the injectors down to the transmission - it can get burned on the EGR valve there (which is just about the right timing with ~2 miles into the trip).

Once again spot on. I would have never noticed it. The plastic retainer that holds the harness close to the intake runner snapped and the harness was resting on the egr pipe and melted thru just one of the wires. I had thought it was the wiring under the dash for an old remote start system a previous owner installed.
