With the release of Scion coming nationwide Feb 2004, TMC has given Toyota USA sports car division a major set-back, while one-uping Scion.

The new Scion tC Coupe will feature the Camrys 4cyl engine, and weighing in at only 2k lbs. But that is where the good news begin and end.

Toyota will also release later quater around summer the 2005 model Celica which will also end the Celica regin in Toyota. Resaons behind dumping the Celica has been unclear, but one major and the clearest of them all is that the new Scion tC will be replacing the Celica with the sales over the past 2 yrs dropping well below expected levels.

That would be a bad move, Toyota doesn't have any sports cars left aside from the MRS. Booo.
Well what they are doing is that Scion and Toyota will be sold side by side at your local Toyota dealership without having to go to a seperate dealership to buy a Scion.

Toyota has already brought the urls for whatever your local Toyota dealership name is as a Scion website. All the sites (US checked only) are all the same site. For example I deal alot with De Land Toyota and Daytona Toyota, and Penn Toyota. They are now also called De Land Scion, Daytona Scion and Penn Scion, with their web address being whatever their Toyota was minus the Toyots plus the Scion.

Toyota will be bring over the Crown, I belive the Crown Majestic to slowly phase out the Avalon and that little white concept hybrid (CSS? not sure of the name)will be goin into production soon also will a release date of 2005 most likely.

Also as some of you may or may not know that the RX will have a Toyota sister, but as a hybrid.

Well the Celica wont be phased out till late 04 maybe mid 05.

The hybrid technology is actually being used Widespread through out Toyotas line-up. There is talk of making a JDM Rolla hybrid, which would make about 5 Toyotas like that. The Highlander, RX 330 and an unamed GS series Car as well as a unamed Toyota Pick-up will also go hybrid. The RX will go on the market summer/fall 04 and the Highlander Hybrid launch in the latter part of 04 arond Thanksgiving or Xmas.

To correct my post above, the RX hybrid will go both Toyota and Lexus, and will have the LED tails, but the Toyota version will get a slight styling change and most likely be released in 05.

This is the CS&S which Toyota has as a concept but will be put into reality in the near future most likely 05.

And don't forget that the Celi is Canada's ONLY Toyota sports car (they include the Solara as well but come on).

We're not getting Scion in Feb 04 so I wonder if discontinuing the Celi only applies to US Dealers.
i was thinking the same thing. if they get rid of the celica, there's no more toyota "sports car" left. plus if they gonna use the scion car to replace this, it's still not carrying a toyota badge coz it's a scion. i don't know about this move, if it's true. maybe they're trying to cut down on cost so they can still sell a sports car with a different badge with an affordable price? who knows. i don't know much about the scion cars, as far as i've seen.. it'll be hard to sell those car to a canadian market coz all their cars look different. hmm!

Either Toyota is really smart or really stupid.

On one hand they're trying to capture a more youthful audience and get consumers young to establish brand loyalty with the launch of Scion, yet thye don't seem to be focusing on retention of maturing loyal customers. As their competitors are offering more refined vehicles from a performance point of view, Toyota is retiring them or replacing them with environmental hybrids. Preserving the environment is great in the long run, but are they choosing the right path?

Maybe Toyota is trying to differenciate their divisions. Scion will be more for young people, with both econo boxes and semi-sports cars available. Toyota more for middle-class adults and Lexus for richer people that can afford luxury cars.

I remember reading somewhere before that Toyota wasn't happy with their slightly older customer base compared to Honda etc. Seems like more ppl from the 30 to 50 year old demographic buy from Toyota, compared with the 20 to 30 for Honda.

Getting rid of the Celica is entirely the wrong way to fix that discrepancy!!

I dont know about this ... I received a call from Toyota yesterday and they were asking about my 1972 Celica. They wondered if I was interested in having my celica in the new brochure for the new Celica Model coming out... The photo shoot is suppose to be this sunday and monday ... I'm getting paid like $500.00 dollars a day for it...

this is what word is from Torrance... I heard that all the smaller vehicles such as the corolla , celica, MRS, tacoma,pre-runner, RAV4 are all going to be sporting Scion badges soon ... While the bigger car like the avalone, camry, tundra, sequoia, and the land cruiser( dont know if they still make land cruisers though) are goin gto sport Toyota badges... They're splitting up the cars for their customer demographics...

They are Probably gonna showcase the Celica from beginning to end like they are doing with the Rolla in Japan. But this next model coming out is gonna be the last Celica

but we already have a division... LEXUS = rich people and YOTAS = middle class tosemi-rich, isn't that enough?

good riddance. the celica is an overpriced car with underacheiving performance. it's no wonder that the sales of that car has sucked. the celica was all good up till they introduced that bug eyed one where it was too much $$$ and couldnt keep up with any of the competitors performance wise.

the new one is no good either...poor gearing-editors say that the engine doesnt stay in lift after gear changes. narrow power band and it cant even take out the DC2 type r....c'mon...celica is newer, has 1 more gear, is double wishbone as well and has 18inchers...it still cant keep up? toyota never made anything good out of the fwd celica i'm sorry to say.

I think this is BS without proof.

From everything we've read, we aren't getting Scion in Canada, so phasing out the Celica so that it can be replaced by a Scion counterpart means either Scions ARE coming to Canada, or the Celica isn't going anywhere. Toyota isn't stupid enough to pull the Celicas from Canada without any sort of good reason.

I'd still like to see something formal about this... until then, im filing it under "hearsay".

Did Toyota replace the supra in Canada? one of their greatest sports cars and look.

You wont see anything official till later on, who knows ya'll make get to keep the Celi since ya'll have the Echo Hatchback
