Clutch slippage when warmed up

Hey guys, I get a slipping clutch after about ... maybe 20 minutes of driving. It would start out fine and then after a half hour would stop grabbing, so that it would take me like 20 seconds to get to 65...

I'm actually convinced that the clutch pedal is preventing a full disengage... not sure if this is a correct diagnosis or not. Would the pedal somehow prevent the rod from coming all the way out?

I can't quite conceptualize what would actually bring the clutch pedal rod "further out"...
I have a '93, so the rod is threaded to the pedal. I'd imagine that threading it into the pedal, away from the cylinder, would sort of 'allow the rod to come out more'? Or would that simply bring the pedal closer to the rod? And what does free play have to do with this? (There seems to be plenty of play, even when hot and not gripping.) Would the pedal height adjuster do anything?

Typing all that felt like a lot of witcraft... :p

I'm hoping not to replace the clutch... any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

yeah i have plenty of play, but the play in the pedal is not actually moving the rod, which gives me the feeling that something else needs to be adjusted.

The thread you mention seems to be just what I need, thanks!

The only way pedal can be the problem is if it cant return properly. The pushrod in the CMC has to retract to open the compensation port. Sometimes people adjust the pedal so it cant return. Fluid heats up and has nowhere to go and you get clutch slippage. It can also happen if you have crappy old fluid and corrosion blocks the port shut. Its up to you to figure out which one os the problem or just replace the CMC.

Or if someone put automatic transmission fluid in the clutch master cylinder, that would expand as it heated, causing slippage... Brake fluid is what you want.

Sorry I am a little late chiming in.
Hmm. Sounds kind of like an intermittent issue I have with my MT 1997 CE. Sometimes if I have the clutch pedal all the way to the floor and I try to shift gears the transmission gets very notchy and hard to get in gear. And when it’s in gear, especially 1st gear, as soon as I let up the clutch the car immediately will lunge forward even when the engine is idling and I haven't given it gas yet. Usually, it doesn’t start moving forward until I have the clutch pedal up a little bit. The first time I experienced this, I thought my clutch might be slipping, but then my cousin who also owned a MT 1995 Corolla said to check the fluid in the reservoir of the clutch master cylinder to see if it’s low. Lo and behold it was low so I refilled it with DOT 3/4 brake fluid (as per the owner’s manual), started it up, drove it around the block for a little bit and everything was fine again. Once a month or so I check the reservoir and refill when necessary.
Hopefully, that’s all you need to do with yours.
