Hi everyone,
My mom's 2006 3.3 4WD Highlander just got the first CEL after 150,000 miles. I scanned the code and I came up with code PO037. The code indicates that it is the Ho2 sensor heater

(Heated Oxygen sensors (HO2S) are inputs used by the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) to determine oxygen content in the exhaust system. Bank 1, sensor 2 refers to the second sensor back on bank 1)

I would like to order the new o2 sensor from Toyota, but what specific o2 sensor should I order? Where is the location of the o2 sensor in question? Does anyone know the cost of this sensor? Does anyone have the part #?

Thanks,
Zack

I'm not positive on the first gen but I think 4 if its a non-california model and 5 if california. Sensor 1 is sometimes called a fuel air sensor, then sensor 2 is called the oxygen sensor. The O2 sensor is after the cat in the exhaust manifold, the fuel air sensor is before it (its the one you can see if you look at the manifold)

This pic will help explain it a bit: (NOTE: The orientation of Sensor 1 and 2 are correct below, BUT bank 1 and bank 2 COULD be different in a toyota, that totally depends on the engineers who designed the engine, so don't use the pic below as bank identification.)

If I recall correctly, the california models have a 5th 02 sensor after the final cat (3rd one) after the y-pipe.

For non-Calif, there is one right at the exit of the manifold for each bank and one after the common cat.

Although I've never put eyes on a Calif HL, from various posts it seems like there is a pair of cats, with sensors before and after them.

"Heated Oxygen sensors (HO2S) are inputs used by the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) to determine oxygen content in the exhaust system. Bank 1, sensor 2 refers to the second sensor back on bank 1. The PCM uses the information gained from the Bank 1,2 HO2S mainly to monitor the efficiency of the catalytic converter."

Then use the diagram provided by Sweeny.

I would say downstream right from that image

Zack1978,

It sounds like some highlanders have three sensors and some have four. It also sounds like the catch is whether the car was destined for California or not. Yours (being in NJ) was mostly not from California which would mean you've got a three sensor version.

Bank One Sensor Two (B1S2) is located below the drivers seat on the underside of the car. Sometimes referred to as the downstream sensor. Stick your head underneath the driver's door and it's easy to see. it's a pain to replace because a) it's probably very rusty, and b) you have to remove the driver's seat to get to the wiring.

But if that's the one you need, then the Denso number is 234-4215.
