New to the site, so i apologize if this has been talked about before.

My son's 2005 Corolla S has started to act up every now and then.
Check engine comes on and seems to go in limp mode.
He shuts it off for a little while and goes back to running normal.
The first time it happened, the check engine light stayed on, so I took it to the local auto parts store and scanned it. P0606 and P0607 were the codes it returned.
The last few times it has happened, the check engine light went off on it's own.
I have researched it and most everyone is saying the ECM may be going bad.
Is that something that can be swapped out at home?
I have checked the connections to the ECM and the battery connections and they look ok.
Thank you for any and all help!

P0606 is ECM internal failure
P0607 is ECM input failure

ECM can be replaced in the vehicle.

To access, you have to remove the glove box.

1. Open the glove box
2. Push the side of the glove box to the inside. This will release the tab on the side of the box.
3. Then pull up to release the box off the hinge on the lower dash board.

To remove the ECM

1. There's 2 Xmas tree clips holding a flap door to the bottom of the ECM. Remove these first.
2. Remove 2 10mm bolts securing the ECM brackets to the dash board.
3. Slide the brackets out of the dash and the ECM can be pulled towards the floor.
4. Before disconnecting the connectors on the ECM, compare the orientation so that you will connect it correctly.
5. Transfer the brackets to the new ECM.
6. Remove the connector from the old ECM and plug it into the replacement ECU. Do this one at a time so that you don't connect it incorrectly.
7. Reassemble.

Note : the Xmas tree clips might break when removing. Mine has broken off and I just leave it alone.

Use row52 to locate the correct model vehicle that is the same as yours.

If there are LED's installed somewhere in the vehicle (usually tail lights or turn signals), these have been known to cause the car to be stupid. CONFIRM that the ECU is bad because it is the very last thing you should consider.
