So i got a 2005 Corolla ce with about 149k miles. Yesterday i tried to start it but it only cranked. I have fuel pressure but not sure if the injectors are working properly. It will try to start with starting fluid spayed into the throttle and the fuel pump seems to work. Any idea what else it might be? Really need my car for school and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

How are the maintenance work on the car? All done accordingly; tune-up, timing belt, fluid change, etc? How was the car running before it decided not to start? Have you check to see if there is good spark going to the plugs? Weak spark can cause no start concern, so can a broken timing belt if it had never been replaced.

This car has a timing chain. One day my Corolla wouldn't start, but it would turn over. It sounded a little bit different when turning over. I suspected the fuel pump or the well-worn ignition switch, but it turned out to be the starter. I took the starter to two or three auto parts stores to have it tested. All three places told me it "passed" the test, but one (or two?) of the places made a comment saying that although it passed, it was a "weak" pass. That was enough for me, so I replaced it and that solved the problem. That was at a lot more miles than you have, though (281K). Anyway, in addition to the things New Echo told you, you can also check the starter.

By the way, I first bought a rebuilt starter from Advance Auto Parts. It was $99, but with the coupon I got it for $60. It only lasted about 3K or 4K miles. Piece of junk. I then bought a NEW TYC starter online. Much better quality and I recommend that brand if it turns out your problem is the starter.

If your engine is cranking but not starting and you believe fuel is being supplied,
then I would replace with new spark plugs if you haven't done it in a while.

Also, you should consider replacing PCV valve, clean mass air flow sensor and throttle body,
and change engine air filter, if they haven't done in a while.

You can do all this for less than $50.

Well i put a new fuel pump in and new injectors. Kinda wanted to for a while now. And still a crank but no start. I checked for spark and i do have spark. And if i open the fuel rail it sprays out. And i cleaned my maf sensor just for the hell of it. Someone told me to check the crank sensor but it reads rmps when i do crank so idk if that means anything.

This is why throwing a bunch of parts at a problem is pretty much never a good idea.

On these cars, the fuel injectors are simple 2 wire injectors. One wire is the power wire directly from the ignition switch (powered by AM2 Fuse) and the other wire is a ground wire that is controlled by the ECU. Check the injectors for power. If they have power and you still have no fuel, then the ECU and engine control system may be a problem area. If you have no power, then you need to find out where you are losing power. The AM2 fuse also powers the fuel pump so without power at the AM2 fuse, you also have no power to the circuit opening relay for the fuel pump. Since you said it has fuel pressure, I would check for an issue after the AM2 fuse.

Hello everyone I’m having the same problem crank no start, first the problem was my pump power so what I did is I hardwired the pump with an external switch and relay so the pump now turns on the voltage is 12.50 depends of the battery the pump sounds good smooth the first time I check the fuel pressure was 42 now is 40psi I also cleaned the maf sensor and still not starting, I put starter fluid directly in the throttle body and the cart start for like 30 seconds, what can it be? I forgot it has new spark plugs . Please help
