Cruise control not working

I just purchased a 2003 6spd XRS yesterday. I'm having an issue with the cruise control. When I press the cruise button "cruise" pops up on the dash, but the cruise control will not set. The previous owner did install an air intake but I don't see any cruise control cables disconnected. Any ideas on fixing this will be greatly appreciated.

I didn't check the fuses yet because I'm not sure where they are and I have not had time to look for them. Before posting this thread I did a search on here using my phone, and it came up with zero results. Yesterday, I used my computer and found a bunch of threads with the same issue. After reading a few, I decided to order a new switch through autozone. This way if that doesn't fix the problem, I can return it.

No I think your cruise control is fine. Cruise does not engage just by pushing the button. It only activates it.

As soon as you push the button and the 'Cruise' light illuminates, just pull the stalk down to engage it. You will see the car will start holding the speed.

If you hold the stalk down, the speed will start reducing and when you hold the stalk up, the speed will start going up.

I put in the new switch and it didn't make a difference. The "cruise" light still activates but setting the cruise does not work by pulling the stalk down. The new switch was missing the ground wire so I attached a new ground wire. It still didn't make a difference.
I'll check the fuses next, but where are the fuses inside the car? Only under the dash?

Also, on the matrix, how do I remove the plastic area under the shifter? And where is the brake boost line located?

When my foot is off the clutch pedal, it is all the way up and pushes the switch in. How should it be adjusted? While searching, I did come across a thread that mentioned pulling up on the clutch pedal with my foot and trying the cruise control. I did this, and it didn't make a difference.

I did order a new clutch cruise control switch which I'll have tomorrow.
