Not wanting to engage in any 'Super Size Me' national stereotypes or anything, but I've found the cup holders too big for my Euro-ish socialist republic of Canada tastes...none of my standard small to medium drinks seem to fit snuggly in the holders....lol.

Guess I better start ordering XL from now on....

Yup - the cup holders are too big. A complaint. Who the heck designed these things.

Try placing a Poland Springs bottle, a small coffee, or a Pepsi bottle. (And no, I am not placing a coffee on drivers door because it has a small bottle holder. Absolutely silly. I have been keeping an eye out for a styrofoam can wrap to use as an insert.

I also find the large cupholders annoying. It was the same on my Tundra. I read how others have used weather stripping, disposal gaskets, and toilet seals. Well, today I bought some plastic cupholders that hang from the window sill from Walmart. I cut off the hook and placed them in he cupholders. Aesthetically, they're okay, but they serve their purpose for now. For $3, it was worth a try. Has anyone else done anything to mod the cupholders?

cupholder too big - in search of insert

I'm using a Kleen Kanteen in the cupholder which is WAY too big and it bobbles all over. It's driving me nuts. I've been searching for some type of insert to make the cupholder smaller, with no luck.

Has anyone else solved this problem and able to point me to something that would work?

Thanks in advance!

Stick one of those cardboard "heat" protection sleeves that you get from Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks, etc in one of the holders. I did that to stabilize bottles of water.

Yes, the cup holders are huge on the 3rd Gen HL! Short term: a foam can koozie. Since it's foam, it was easy to cut an opening for the plastic tab that's supposed to help secure your drink. Would love to hear some better ideas. I've been looking and can't find anything. I've seen some cup holder inserts from other Toyota models, but they're crazy expensive at about $20 each; that's too expensive for something I'd still have to modify a little bit.

I bought and installed "Drink Dockers" (www.drinkdocker.com). Found out about these from someone else on this forum (don't remember where). Front one is a medium size and rear one is large size. They come with rubber shims so you can adjust the fit into the original cupholder. I think they work great! $10. each plus shipping.

The beer foams are likely the most useful way to go. You can also simply splice it so it doesn't have to grip the cup and stays in the holder. May have to remove the center splitter.

Another thing to do is to add some foam along the walls of the cup holder. I think this might work and look best. You might be able to use some spare bike helmet foams. They have a smooth material so cups slide in nice.
