Fog Light Mod

Anyone have a write up or know if a write up exists for the fog light mod for our cars? What I mean is, can you make the fog lights come on with the parking lights, and stay on with the high beams? This was a relatively easy mod on my tacomas and tundra, it has to be possible for our cars too. I see there is one for the older camry's, but not sure if it will work with ours.

All your lighting on a modern Camry is controlled by computers. Its no longer a simple circuit with switches and relays.

Near as I can figure, the only way it would be possible to operate your fog lamps independent of high/low beam control would be to wire up a separate relay and wires. You'd need to wire the power side of the relay between B+ and the fog lamps. The control side circuit could take power from a parking light and be grounded via the fog light switch in the steering column. I doubt the fog-on light in the instrument cluster would work correctly.

I was able to do the fog light mod with the parking lights by splicing a 20 gauge wire. The gen 7 should be the same. Anyone willing to try it out here my thread

Unfortunately, looking at a 2012+ EWD circuit diagram of the fog lights, I don't believe the system is similar. It appears the Integration relay controls the fog lamps based on inputs from the Main Body ECU. There is no longer a conventional fog lamp relay that can be easily manipulated, as in the earlier models.

I mocked-up a crude diagram using the newest EWD I have. It involves running a separate relay and wire - essentially by-passing the regular circuit.

I HAVE NOT attempted this on my own car, although I think it should work. If I get especially enthusiastic, I may try this modification myself...as I feel that fog lamps that are tied into the main headlamp circuit defeat their own purpose.http://www.toyotanation.com//www.pinterest.com/pin/create/extension/

Running a new harness with a relay is a lot of wires. If you have the time I would find out if the ECU for the fog control power or ground. Toyota like to control ground through the ECU. And looking at the wiring diagram the power seems to be coming from the junction/fuse block. If that's true hopefully the fog light switch is still ground control like on the gen6 and you can splice the wire and it should work.

The problem is there is no factory relay for the fog lights. It's more than likely a transistorized output controlled within the Integration relay, which means you have to do what was suggested above, splice in your own relay to piggyback the factory circuit and tap off the ground wire for the factory switch at the column, and use that to trigger your new relay. It's not simple, but would work. You'd also probably lose the light on your dash as well that indicates when your fog lights are on.
