How Much Oil Left in Engine (2AR-FE) When Doing an Oil Change?

There is a discussion over on BITOG on how much oil is actually left in the engine when doing a complete oil and filter change. The consensus is that there's always oil that is left in the block and system, and that it is, of course, different for different engines. There is what some call a "dry fill," when oil is added to a newly rebuilt engine, and that amount is different than what is usually changed at a typical change interval. So, anyone know how much is left in the 2AR-FE engine, or what the dry fill is? Thanks!

The only difference we ever did on a fresh engine was to fill the oil filter first and add the difference prior to start up.
We also would cut of the fuel and and get oil pressure first before start up or prime the oil pump if possible depending on what engine we had.
Why?

I've always wondered this too, since the drain plug is slightly angled, so there must be a small amount of oil left inside.

I don't think it's significant by any means. I have read that putting the car on ramps or jacking it up lets a little more oil come out than if you just loosened the drain plug at ground level.

I sold a Buick long time ago to some guy and about 1 year later I met him and asked how my Buick was. It turned out, engine died. The guy was starting dry motor for a few seconds after draining oil to get rid of old oil completely.

I typically raise the front on ramps, drive the car up, let it sit for at least an hour, and let it drain for at least half an hour. With the front raised, the oil drain at the rear of the pan, and allowing the oil to thoroughly drain through the engine, I typically am able to get about 4.8/4.9 quarts in. The standard drain/filter/refill of 4.6 is probably for level car and not sitting. The 3 or 4 ounce difference may or may not be a big deal, but I like having as much clean fresh oil in as possible.
