I had my techstream cable out today to change some settings...figured there are more than a few curious as to what can/can not be changed by your dealer. Examples include disabling seat belt warning, adjusting the volume of the turn signal, adjusting the amount of blinks for quick change, volume of sound when locking car, etc...Here is an idea of what you can do:

It doesn't work with the 64 bit version though. Oh well, when I take it in for its first oil change I will have them make all the changes I want and hopefully be done with it.

Thanks for the pics sarcoptic.

Yep I know about the settings in the infotainment area...I already owned the cable so figured show the people what techstream can do, I know one setting that you need the cable for is the quick turn function. 3 blinks is definitely not enough.

nope, it is in the setting menus. I saw it. I can be changed to 5 blinks from what I recall.

3 blinks is perfect amount just for a lane change. Anything more and it's still blinking while your already in the new lane. Unless ofcourse you take forever to change lanes :p

For what it's worth though I have been through all sorts of menus and settings in our new Platinum and I definitely do not recall seeing the one touch lane change blink times anywhere.

3 is too short for me. I like the 5 as sometimes it can take a bit longer to change and I could care less for a blink or 2 extra while already in the lane :)

Just now reading about tstream. Is this also what toyo tec would use or strictly for the DIY personal use? Reason I ask...nothing on eng. parameters like..reading trouble codes..f.i. firing/balance test etc. tks.

I think that you are after an ODBII Code reader. As far as I know, Techstream is just for changing the codes.I would be willing to bet that the actual software that the Toyota people use, can do ALL of the stuff needed, including trouble codes, etc.

This is exactly what the dealers use.
There is no other "special" software.
There are no engine tweaking options or codes as this would void the warranty and or emissions compliance, Thus dealers would not be allowed to change that stuff anyways.

As for the question on the cryptic of some options when you click each option it will give you a brief description of what that setting does.

What he is showing is customizable features, there is a ton of diagnostic stuff in Techstream not shown here, but no other programmable custom things.
This will do all of what an ODBII reader/kit will do and much more.

Funman...Techstream caught my attention. This is my first ever toyo vehicle, so learning curve for me. What u said I was thinking "ton of diag. Techstream stuff not shown here". Is other "stuff" avail. for anyone or just Toyo tech? Curious......

Do you or ? recall in past..has toyo released any "running program changes (updates) for engine? Done by reflashing pcm or ecm. Usually for correcting eng. running issues. Do know this is done by fmc tech. using IDS, for both eng/electronic tranny No biggie, just wondering. Tks.

All the pictures are just one section of the software, you cna pull from probably close to 150 sensors in the car that are live streaming while the car is running. Basically it allows you to connect to the individual ECU's in the car over the CAN bus and view the data points/sensors attributed to that system. Anyone can access it if they have properly functioning software.

The only ECM/ECU reflash/update I know of that they've done or a Highlander in the past few years was implementing brake override when you hit the gas. I don't know of any performance based updates.

Will this software re-flash ECU yes, However you would never be able to get the firmware TO re-flash the ECU.
So you have the capability but lack the firmware to actually do it :)
And like Patrick said you would gain nothing except the new brake override.

Our 15' will automatically unlock with the presence of the fob but you must manually lock the vehicle by touching the door handle when exiting. Our CTS will auto lock and unlock via the fob which is much preferred.

I think I understood the techstream options will permit one to set an automatic lock after delay.

Is this possible on the Highlander?

Note to Moderators...please reconsider your censorship.

Ya know, your 'Removal' of known cable/software resources in this thread that will simulate Techstream operation isn't helping us that have a valid need for this sort of thing.

On another thread I've been reporting my intermittent flame-out issues whereas the engine quits propelling the car for about 3 seconds before it resumes proper operation...a most hazardous condition. There seem to be at least 6 others having the same problem.

I've taken the car to two different dealers to no avail. They say they can't fix it if they don't know what is happening, and until then all they can do is keep parroting "the car is operating as designed". A pretty damn lame excuse, but apparantly that's corporate Toyota's modus operandi from their legal department.

Being's this condition is intermittent, they say the only way to catch it in the act is to have a Techstream plugged in when it happens so they can see the stored readout and identify which component/system is failing... and they aren't inclined to loan me their Tech$treams to find out.

So obviously Toyota isn't capable of finding this on their own, I'm going to have to find it for them. I'm willing to commit a personal laptop to this project, for the benefit of many.

Are you willing to enable me do it?
