Is this a HID flicker?

I noticed this problem, if you watch the vid you see a slight big/small flicker when u look closely at teh video (hard to explain). It happens with the HIDs in my fogs as well. I have 5k for low/fog lights. Is this a big issue or nothing to care about? Because I had my friend drive my Camry while I was driving a car in front but didn't notice the flicker. Also why the heck do my 5ks look slightly bluish. I've seen a lot of 5k hids on youtube and they all look pure white. No my HIDS are not retrofitted

Ahh, I had a feeling either this would happen, your bulbs would be bluer, or both when you told the price of the deal you got w/ installation.

Yea, dyapanis is right, thats flicker. Not bad, but its only a matter of time before it becomes to the point where it almost flickers off and on. You have flicker and bluer bulbs (not a true 5000k) because of low quality bulbs.

Alright I'll take it back to the place where I got it installed on Friday... b/c I called him today and told him about the flicker & he was like I won't have new bulbs til Friday so drop by then. How is he gonna fix it? I'm pretty noob when it comes to this HID stuff.. He offers a lifetime warranty which is why I went with him. I knew brand wise he didn't use the good stuff since he charged $100 for the install+ kit for low beam and an extra $80 for fogs

do you know if he plugged your ballast directly into OEM low beams or used a relay harness?
if he used a harness, where he connected 12+; to the battery or the "hot nut"?
looks like your amperage is "floating"-going up and down.
there are bunch of reasons for that:
-low quality ballasts or bulbs
-improper connection/bad ground
-to much load on your battery

Here is a pic of a true 5k low and stock halogen fogs. How much bluer are you than a halogen? PS these lights were this color on the first start. This pic is after "burn in". Burn in is real, but it only will change a twinge of blue to burn whiter. Like not as much blue on the cutoff. It won't change a 6000k to a 5000k

+1

for the price you paid, i suggest you take your money back and just buy the morimoto or xenon depot. the install is really very simple even for a novice. there's no cutting or splicing needed.

That's a cheap ballast issue.....

It's the ballasts, not the bulbs man.

Just asked him and he said no relay harness. Asked him why mines are more blue and he says they need a burn in period Not sure if these pics mean anything. But he will check it out on Friday once he gets his stuff back in stock.

Wow, I hate to make you feel bad about the money you spent, but those ballasts look like they are junk, no name brand, older design etc. Everyone said you should order DDM or something comparable and install yourself.

Here are more pics at night

What are you taking these pictures with? These look like 6000k plus from the pics, however the camera could be deceiving me. The only reason I am saying anything is that the first HID's I recently got for my 2012 SE flickered and were WAY too blue.

Alot those reviews are talking about how glad people are that he is giving new stuff when the cheap stuff he is putting in the cars breaks. A ton of reviews have mentioned some type of problem with the kit, even the 5* ones. (I only read 5-10 reviews). Sounds like the low quality stuff he uses is going to continue to be a problem until you upgrade yourself. I'm over a year on DDM ballasts and Morimoto bulbs and they haven't had issues starting one single time.

Charging that kind of money to install a $5 @ cost HID kit...such easy money its practically stealing!!

Good news, took it in today. I told him I was not happy with the work because the ballast glue wasn't holding and kept falling out and that flicker was there. He checked and found out it was a ballast problem and upgraded all 4 ballast to the slim ballist kits for free which he claimed is better and the HID will start up right away when I turn it on. He also zipped tied it this time instead of use the glue residue Here are the results, it's the same 5k bulbs, definitely looks white now. Weird how a bad ballast can change the color. But now no more flicker and it actually looks white now. http://www.hidmasters.com/Replacement_Slim_Ballast/p1124731_5128267.aspx is the slim ballast he used

glad everything worked out for you. He should've gone with the slim ballast from the beginning but I guess he thought he could get one over you since a lot of people wouldn't know any better of would have noticed the flicker. again, glad everything worked out for you.

Yea with the second pic its obvious. You shot the pic from below the cutoff, so it should be equal glares I think. But your right, the drivers side is glaring much more. Looks like the passenger one is dimmer. Hope he fixes it. So thats good, it doesn't look to be alignment related.

Well guys, here's an update. I mailed the bad ballast on Thursday. It was delivered on Saturday and today I received an email from DDM stating that they are going to ship me a new ballast as mine tested bad. Not bad customer service so far.

Long story short I got lazy to take it in since it seemed to be a headlight adjusting issue. So I lowered both of my lights so it doesn't blind peoples side mirrors anymore however I didn't keep track how many clicks or w/e I went. Does my driver one seems slightly higher or no based on that pic. Lazy to do the 25 feet then with all the measuring and stuff, I'm just estimating. Had my friend drive my car last night & it didn't seem to blind anyone but the driver side seemed just slightly higher.
