How is it? Any pics? MTEC is a good brand. It has the same ratings as PIAA. I used their halogen bulbs (4750K) on my last 2 cars. Unfortunately, halogen bulbs don't last too long.

I got the answer. I thought they're 9005 type but they only fit on Sienna.

Interestingly, when you search under MTEC Toyota Highlander (on eBay) and result is "fits".

 

Please post pics. I'm considering picking up a new 2016 Toyota Landcruiser and I'm looking for the most inexpensive modifications available for it. Maybe 10k 75 watt HIDs and LED fog lights, the ones with fans on them? They seem the best, but I don't want to spend more than $100 on them. Maybe built a cold air intake with dryer hose for it as well? I have to stop at Pep Boys and see what other things I can add to it. Keep up the great work with your mods. They sound spectacular.

 

The seller has the same package for many cars. Sienna and HL are using the same 9005 HB3 bulb for highbeam+DRL. The seller asked me particularly what car and model I have before sending me the package after I checked-out from eBay.

Here I turned on the low beam with the highbeam. See the HID low beam is still warming up showing a bit blue-ish.

Low beam is using the famous XenonDepot H11 Xtreme HID kit with the normal 5000k bulb. It maybe my cheap phone camera that too sensitive to the light and over exposed/exaggerated.

In my quest to look for LED solution that can operate fully as a high beam but dim (and no flicker) as daytime running light on my HB/DRL combo headlight, I came across this post on the MTEC LEDs. Bought them on sale at ebay and finally got a chance to try them out. Results:

Pros:
- HB in full power while DRL is in reduced power
- No flicker in DRL mode
- Nice white color
- HB mode is bright (LEDs in 9 | 3 o'clock positions)

Cons:
- DRL is still pretty bright when you look at the lights head-on.
- This is my only concern that it is still too bright even though that the LED has reduced lumens in DRL mode... I emailed MTEC to see if there's a way to reduce the brightness further, but they said no.

Some pics attached. The 2 photos for the (a) DRL (LED) vs OEM halogen, and (b) HB (LED) vs OEM HB are taken with the same exposure setting on my phone to ensure the proper brightness comparision.

You can see HB is brighter than DRL. But DRL is still a tad too bright for my liking.

Anyways, I will keep them for now until I have a better solution.

 

in my experience though i felt that white hi beam DRL's give modern look .. older hallogens make the car face more distinguishable to the on coming traffic

fyi i have upgraded to XD HID 4700k and XD led 5000k fog bulbs but left the originals in hi-beams since they made the car more visible

like u can see in ur pics the white LED's are hardly visible in the sunlight

I do see a lot of cars with fancy white DRL lights. My HL DRL looks more like kerosene lamps.

Would using the fog lights with white LEDs as the DRL be any better (and turn off the DRL mode in settings)?

 

This brings up an interesting point...The more conformity the DRL take shape of the less noticable they will be. It is the variation and the differences that are seen that the brain will not ignore. The eye seens them all, but the brain filters.
SO when the brain sees a bunch of white DRL it can filter them to be "ignored" in a sense, but what ever sticks out as different in a pool of cars with similar lights will detect as a possible "danger" or subject to be aware of.
Its simply mind conditioning. As in the same respect, if you had a pool of cars with orange kerosene lamp color, and then you have a couple cars with white DRL, the white will stick out.

Any debate or testing of which is better is simply limited to that test and not something done over time and real world conclusion forming study. It cannot be.
Same in advertising space....
A page of beautifully colored ad logos and advertisements will be ignored by that one or 2 black and white ad that sticks out. The brain is conditioned and adapts. It is not a constant.

So I am keeping the current ugly kerosene lights for now till some new eBay mod lamp housing comes out that Impresses me.

I too had the thought of using fog lights as DRL but some one said its not legal to use Fogs on all driving conditions.
This setting needs some mods to be able to individually able to turn on and off the fog lights independently.

Actually one should be able to turn on and off the fogs independently irrespective of Head lights but some rules appear to have changed it.

So not sure as of now

 

Bumping this thread to see if the guys who got the MTEC DRL kit are still using it and still happy? I want to upgrade my Hi Beams. The stock are pretty much useless after putting in the XD's HID kit but my 2014 XLE uses it for the DRL, too.

 

I still have the MTEC LEDs on my DRL/HB combo light. 2017 HL XLE. So far so good.

I think you have read my earlier post at #16.

In DRL mode, the LED is at reduced power compared to the HB but it is still quite bright if you look at it head-on. So far no one has flashed at me so I don't think it's blinding anyone. I may tuned it later to angle it down a little.

In HB mode, it's nice and bright; beam is nicely focused on the road in front. I can post a picture if you want.

EDIT: Looked at the LEDs again today. Definitely too bright at head on, so I think I will aim them down and see if that helps, or turn them off entirely until I find a better solution...

 

I'm using XD Pro LED for the HB, and they work nice enough that I have kept them on along the XD HID for a few years.
