Hey everybody,
I have a 2007 Camry SE and my headlight are horrible! I have done all the cleaning of the lenses but after a couple weeks they just get hazy again. It is very hard to see the road at night without my brights on and in the rain it is even worse. Does anyone have any suggestions on either OEM or aftermarket whole replacement lights? I really like the look of the Spyder with the chrome and LED bar under the lamps. But I have read conflicting reviews about them for brightness and he quality of the casing. I know I don't own an Audi or BMW but I would really like the brightness that they have. If anyone has had experience with AWESOME brightness please advise me in my future purchase. Thank you in advance.

Awesome brightness would be a retrofit - i.e. buying some cheap replacements, cracking open the lenses and installing something like Mirimoto HID projectors.

OEM brightness would be either:

- Decent junkyard replacements
- Decent new lights
- http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/toyota,2007,camry,2.4l+l4,1433263,body,headlamp+assembly,10762 - TYC or DEPO replacements
- OEM replacements
- Cleaning the lights with toothpaste or similar and then RESEALING them to protect them from UV.

I've read mixed reviews on the Spyder lights as well - I'd probably stay away from them, but they could be fine.

Are you handy? I'd recommend an HID retrofit if you're willing to put the time into it. You will get comparable results to Audi, BMW, and Benz HID's. The new LED's are a different story. I was lucky to find a used pre-retrofited set by me: MDX projectors, clear lenses, Philips D2S bulb, etc. I am blown away by the results.

My understanding is that the only thing that gives a long lasting "cleaning" is a kit sold by 3M, among others. It's got a sanding disc you put on a drill, and you actually sand with a couple different grits and then polish. It makes them look as good as new. Sanding away the UV damaged plastic is the way professionals do it. You can get the kit at any auto parts store, Walmart, online etc.

I've been through most of this ...

Anything that gets the oxidation off will make them clear - sanding, toothpaste, Brasso, Plasit-X. The original coating is a UV-resistant paint, and once that wears off they fog up. You have a couple options. Toothpaste/polish will clear up the hazed areas and usually NOT remove the remaining coating. Sanding will remove the coating and make the lights like new (for a while).

With the coating removed, you have to seal the lights or they will haze again. There are lots of options - paste wax lasts a few months. The 3M coating will last at least a year. Clear vinyl wrapping is an option. Clear plastic UV paint is an option. 50/50 Mineral spirits and spar urethane applied with a rag is an option.

I had the Spyder projector halos on my 2003 Camry.

The light output with an H1 HID PnP kit was amazingly bright. The beam pattern wasn't as wide, and you'd have to cover the sign-spotters above the cutoff to avoid glare. I felt like a boss driving with them after the upgrade! I can't say too much for longevity, as I sold the car a few years ago.

As for protecting the lenses, I've got mine vinyl wrapped. You can wrap them in clear or in a slight tinted color. On my Solara, I went with clear and on my Lexus I went with light blue.

Full Spyder Smoked Tint Set- 07 Gen6 XLE V6

Just bought a set of Smoked out Spyder (Full kits front, back, fogs) and aside from the car now looking TOTALLY different, I went with LED lighting to top it off. Have I mentioned this set looks amazing?!
However, light output from the aftermarket Spyders is a bit underwhelming with the Smoked Out darkened plastic covers. The LEDs I bought are not super high output either (2100 Lumens @ 5000K each headlight) but they are very clear looking from the front of the car. As Spyder goes, get the clear lenses unless your camry is a darker color - then go with the Smoked out versions. You won't regret it!
Also, go with a decent set of LEDs if you want better output. I have to use both headlight and foglight to get visibility. But if it was for looks, Spyder is an absolute win!
