I paid top dollar for my 2018 Camry XSE V6 loaded..... Well I have owned 2 Camrys XSE’s (2012-2015) all with Intergreated Navigation. This SCOUT Nav APP is HORRIBLE AND TOYOTA SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!! Me and my Family have bought 18 Brand new Toyota’s in 10 years and we are due to get another 5 within the year and I can not allow it with this Obvious PLOY BY TOYOTA to LIE and say the Car have Navigation....... so so disappointed. Does ANYONE KNOW A WORK AROUND? A harness I can buy so I can mirror my phone to the car? Or the actual Toyota Part Number of the “Intergrated” or “Dynamic” module and antenna I need so I can have it installed I to my car so I can actually HAVE A NAVIGATION system I am used to with EVERY SINGLE CAR I OWNED OR KNOWN!!!!!! PLEASE HELP!

Toyota Scout App is pretty bad but works okay.

Why not pay extra for an actual built-in navigation or simply use your phone? Google Maps is far better.

It sucks but it does work. I used it a couple of times in area's that i am not familiar with and it got me to the place i needed to go with no problem. If you search through the forums i believe there are smart phone mounts that people are using that work.
I'm sorry that you feel this way but you should of done your research before buying the car. I wouldn't say it's a ploy by toyota to screw with their trusted customers, but i digress. I have an xse v6 with audio plus with scoutgps and im happy with it.

Call your toyota dealer and ask them how much it would be to change out the audio plus with the dynamic navigation. It's your call if you think it's worth the cost to do it.

Entune sucks. I hate it. I don't use it. It's garbage.

I just use my phone. It sucks to still have to use the phone screen for maps but it is what it is. I wish I could find some kind of plug and play that would mirror the phone on the touch screen but I haven't seen anything that didn't seem to require a solid understanding of the space time continuum and quantum physics to get working right.

Just suck it up and use your phone and find a halfway decent mount for it on the dash.

Yeah thats what I was told. Just suck it up and don't worry about it. I paid close to 37 grand for a 2018 car, I expect EVERYTHING to work like its advertised and SUPPOSE to work. You should have got the Integrated or Dynamic Nav in a V6. But get this, from reading on Toyota's site last night while building the same Camry I have versus the V6, I read this......

Connected Navigation Scout® GPS Link App39 with 3-year complimentary trial, Siri® Eyes Free,46 HD Radio,26 Entune 3.0 App Suite,65 SiriusXM® Satellite Radio22 with 3-month complimentary SiriusXM All Access trial,20 and Gracenote® album cover art. Entune 3.0 Toyota Connected Services: Safety Connect®36 with 3-year complimentary trial, Service Connect62 with 3-year complimentary trial, Remote Connect57 with 6-month complimentary trial.

The Scout Nav system is a 3 year TRIAL which means you will be required to PAY for something that doesn't work after 3 years. Toyota Connected Services 3 YEAR TRIAL. Service Connect 3 YEAR TRIAL. REMOTE CONNECT 6 MONTH TRIAL. Total BULLSHIT

what other car company has these type of features and are free? i think they all require you to pay after X amount of years. ScoutGPS is interesting because with dynamic navigation after three years you'll have to pay to get the cloud-based updates but you will still be able to use the maps. i wonder if its the same with scoutgps since scoutgps is in a way cloud-based updates too.

Our Ford Escape Titanium has Nav and the Fordpass App that shows exactly where the vehicle is at all times. Allows you to lock, unlock, remote start, etc and isn't a TRIAL period. My son's Nissan doesn't charge either. That would be like charging to use the A/C anytime its used.

I do not have the dynamic GPS program in my XLE hybrid. Instead of Scout GPS, I used my Garmin Nuvi GPS on my recent trip to Kentucky. It worked great, although it didn't show the maps on my main console in the dash. The Garmin has a 4" screen.

If you don't want to use something like a Garmin, you might want to try an iPad mounted on the dash and use Google maps. Of course, you would need unlimited wireless Internet access for the iPad (which again, is the reason why I prefer the Garmin GPS, since my wireless data plan is not unlimited)

My experience with Scout GPS has been a mixed bag. I hate that it relies on your phone to adjust the volume settings. If the music volume is too loud, it basically drowns out the turn-by-turn voice directions.

I really do hope Toyota brings Android Auto to '18 models via an OTA Entune update. Admittedly, I'm considering the new Altima because of Entune's shortcomings.

I have noticed that too. If i am playing music from my phone like spotify and i use scoutgps, it doesn't lower the music when it starts to speak. But if i have it on the radio, then it does lower the music when it speaks. I just had to set the voice volume higher so i can hear it. Now when i am using google maps and playing spotify through the cars speakers, it lowers the voice when google maps speaks. It's kinda annoying but turning the volume higher works for now. But other than that i just used scoutgps for my hour drive from Orange, CA to Los Angeles, CA during traffic and i had no issues with it.

Entune is awful

I have no love for Entune.

I've been attempting, since 2015, to get the map updated. No one at the dealership seems to know how. I've tried several years in a row.

For a recent trip, I updated my Garmin Nuvi 2595 with new maps (no charge). It worked great, though it tended to route me on back roads for some reason.

When I buy another car, Android Auto seems like a good way to go.

It isn't just the Camry that has these navigation system problems. I purchased a 2017 Prius Prime Advanced and quickly discovered that the Entune Map & Navigation system has serious problems. The maps in a brand new vehicle were 11 months out of date on the date of purchase. I did ask about map updates when the car was in for service. No joy. It goes in again today and I will ask again.

I haven't even mentioned the map/nav system errors and omissions. US 50 and I-5 are NOT the same highway but the nav system keeps telling me to turn onto I-5 west from CA-99. I have also found several streets omitted which are in long established communities. I guess they just don't exist.

WAZE had my location and was able to provide perfect directions within two days of moving in to my new home in a new development. (WAZE is owned by Google and even Google Maps cannot find my address, even though I have attempted to update Google Maps several times. Go Figure!) I'm going to look for a phone mount so I can stick my Google Pixel on the 11 inch flat screen. Too bad we can't override the nav system and just feed the screen from out phones and our favorite navigation app.

I hold out little hope for a map update considering mjk48's experience attempting to get his Camry's maps updated since 2015.

I am sure that google and other map companies want alot of money for cooperation in syncing and updating maps. But the infotainment systems are new and are stripped down cheap to sell.

Apple Car PLay and QNX in other cars like Chevy / Ford is leading the way. toyota has yet to pony up the investment in these systems.

Ironically Blackberry software is the most stable and secure system to run Apple Car play and the Android info tain sys. For some reason toyota has not bought in.

My wife's 2017 Ford Escape titanium infotainment system has never given us a single problem. We used Android Auto going from Ky to FL and it never gave us any problems or wrong directions like my Scout GPJunk does in my 18 XSE. We were in a parking lot in a different city leaving a store the other night. Got Scout up and running and hit HOME. And it started spinning in a circle back and forth then lead us into a subdivision.

Its really just started. https://9to5mac.com/2016/02/04/hand...4/hands-on-with-carplay-on-the-new-chevy-volts-8-inch-capacitive-display-video/

QNX will spread because it is a superior system. When toyota will decide to get on board is anyone's guess. Maybe they might want to go back to DVD Based navigation. Or they are waiting for all of this to mature. In any case its a mess right now without a high quality system based with QNX. Personally I could stomach the Apple Car play but not apple phone. I maybe could stomach android car but despise the phones.

The take away is really hysterical. No matter what the reality is, QNX is the most beautiful, most secure system and is ready for IOT.... and these manufactures are just dragging ass with cheap crap. So feel good about it ( cheapness ) and enjoy your phone....for now.

UPDATE to yesterday's post.

While having my Prius Prime serviced yesterday I inquired about updates to the Navigation system. The Service Advisor checked and let me know that
a) updates are released about once a year (this means they are always 10-12 months out of date upon release),
b) they are NOT covered by any service plans, and
c) the current cost is $175.

I'm guessing this is consistent with the other Toyota vehicles and their Navigation systems.

I will speak to my independent Toyota Service Center next time I'm in the neighborhood.

Problem Continues 2019

Did a great deal of research into the Scout GPS system and Toyota. This problem seems to be known by Toyota and continues to today. Dealers apparently are aware of this issue but do not readily discuss it. While I have been told I could get another 2019 via Lemon Law, what good does it do if this will still be a problem on another new car? But, I am pursuing this under the Federal Act and, while it will not immediately fix the problem, it may get me some compensation and it costs me nothing. I wish there was something I could do to force Toyota to insist a fix be made via whomever, but, have not been able to break through.

I would never recommend ANY Toyota 2018 or later GPS unit. Love the car, but not the problem nor lack of Toyota addressing it. :frown:

Don't have my camry anymore, and never had scout gps. The car I have now has android auto. I can use waze and Google Maps, both are 100000000 x's better than any toyota navigation system. Toyota should've just put carplay and aa in their vehicles years ago. The factory nav in my 17 camry was terrible and I've only heard worse things regarding the scout gps

I am going to repeat what i said on another topic.

''I can`t wait the day android takes over''

Patiently waiting...

As an iPhone user I do want both platforms to be available on the Camry, I just want Android folks to know that Toyota was always hesitant about Android Auto because google asks for every bit of data from the car during operation and Toyota wasn’t willing to give over all that info. I know they are caving in now because of all the backlash but I hope Google adjusts their permissions going forward. No idea why they need all that data from the car itself when they already track everything from your phone as well.

We have two android phones but...

I have been using my google maps and waze on the phone and sometimes pandora and its not that bad. But I do like my Sirius XM with voice control and I use the voice control on that lame nav app. But I am going to try a friends Iphone. Then I am considering a used Iphone just for the damn car, and trade in one android.

Actually it is the best car I ever had and I have had them all.

XSE Red leather woohoo
