Hi all,

I have a power steering hose leak where it connects to the reservoir.

I cleaned it up as best I could but need to fix it. Do they sell just this hose without the entire assembly?

I can't seem to find it. Rockauto had a hose that says matches but it doesn't appear to be the right one. I just want the rubber hose and better hose clamps. Anyone know how to go about getting them?

Thanks
Greg

You cannot buy just the rubber hose from Toyota, only the assembly which is hose and hard lines. It is pricey! You can use 3/8" fuel/oil resistant type hose and it does not have to be high pressure. I have tried to just add worm drive clamps to the old hose but, the problem is that the old hose gets rock hard as it ages and just will not compress to form a seal. Be real careful removing it so that you do not break the fitting off of the plastic reservoir, it is best to cut the hose off by slitting it lengthwise where it slides over the nipple. While you are at it replace the other two sections of that hose. One at the front of the car where it attaches to the cooler line and the other where it runs along the frame rail in front of the engine. It is also a good idea to replace the suction hose from the pump to the reservoir with an OE hose. All that should eliminate leaks on the non pressure side of the system.

It’s not even as much a leak as “weeping” out where the rubber hose meets the reservoir. I’d love to buy the OM hose but they don’t sell it, they just seem to sell the entire assembly which seems unnecessary to replace when there isn’t a huge issue, especially at the prices I am seeing. I tried moving the clamp a quarter of an inch to the right of where it was. I will keep checking it until I figure out a solution. Who knows - I’m sure that won’t work but until I can find hose it’s worth a shot.

What’s the best way to cut generic hose?

Thanks,
Greg

Well I tried the 3/8" hose and it didn't fit so it is a 5/8". On the other hand, my power steering hose might've stopped leaking after this attempt. I am not sure if I didn't clamp enough or if it just need its seal "refitted".

Thanks for sharing ! Funny, I still haven’t had time to mess with it a whole bunch so a few weeks ago I just moved the clip over a smidge to see if it would help and I think mine stopped as well. I’ve been keeping an eye on it and it appears to be holding but I am sure it is a temp thing. For now, it is working until I get more time.

so i have a leak from the same piece of hose. the leak is actually somewhere in the middle of that hose so i'm gonna have to replace it. went to dealer and they only sell the full assembly line for $115. @cannelg have you fixed yours by now? how's it holding up? also, to anyone that may know, they would sell a usable piece of hose at autozone or similar, correct?

Leaks drip downwards. Clean it and see if it comes back or break it loose and rotate it a couple of times to see if that stops the leak. Just buy a universal 5/8"(?) hose, that length and that angle shouldn't be too bad.
