The dreaded cracking dashboard

Sooooo...

I owned a 2006 Avalon Limited with a cracking dash. The dash was replaced for free in 2017 as a part of the limited service campaign. That car was totaled and I then bought a 2007 Avalon Limited. I believe the dash had already been replaced in the 2007. Last Saturday, I traded in my 2007 Avalon Limited and I am now the proud owner of a 2008 Avalon Limited!

This 2008 is a one owner vehicle with only 73k miles on it with an extensive service history at Toyota that documents every oil change. I even had a Toyota dealership do a pre purchase inspection and the car is immaculate EXCEPT for the cracking dash. The service campaign for dash replacement expired in 2017, but I hoped Toyota would do a good will replacement based on the service history of the car. Well, they of course said no to replacing the dash on their dime. It is irritating because the previous owner was never advised of the service campaign, The car has been serviced religiously at Toyota. Does anyone have a contact at Toyota that might help me to get this dash replaced?

Alternatively, if I must fix the issue myself, must I replace the entire dash? Even though there are other little cracks, if I could just replace the one panel as shown in this example picture, that would be satisfactory to me. Does anyone know if it's possible to only replace the one panel? (Picture is not of my car, but another Avalon found online.) Thank you!

I actually did call and ask. The issue is that the previous owner says they were never notified when "the time for free" had not expired. I am already seeking alternative means to fix the dash as evidenced by my post here. Hopefully I can figure out something besides a (carpeted) dash mat because I am not personally a fan of that look. Also, the top part of the dash is crack free - for now.

I traded in the 2007 because it had 157k miles on it and it was never in as good of shape as the 2006 that I had that was totaled when I was broadsided by a drunk driver. The 2008 only has 73k miles - it's barely broken in! When I bought the 2007, I made a hasty decision and should have kept looking for a nicer Avalon. Now I have found it - except for the dang dash!

I went to a junkyard this afternoon. Unfortunately, one was the wrong color and the other was in worse shape than mine. It does look like, however, that the one panel I need is not separate, but is instead a part of the entire dash that would have to be replaced. I have not seen instructions for removing the entire dash, but seems like it might be above my skill set.

Has anybody had any success using the Rvinyl custom dash kits/stickers?

Mine cracked too and it's an eye sore but I don't have time to fix it yet. I was looking at this item, maybe I will try someday

It’s on my "maybe” project list to patch the whole dashboard and paint it black, but I think the process for taking out the dashboard is very labor-intensive. Maybe @inov8 has/knows the procedure, he tends to have insider knowledge of the interior.

For anyone reading this and their dash somehow is not cracked, a UV tint on your windshield & windows is the best thing you could do preventatively.

It is a pretty big ordeal to get the dash out, maybe not labor intensive, but there’s a lot going on back there. I’ve got an 06 Avalon and recently had an evaporator core leak. Look up videos on that and you can find some showing dash removal. Ended up taking mine to the shop because I just wouldn’t be able to find the time. They told me they’ve never seen so many connectors on a dash.

Had a cracked dash for a while so when they replaced some of the dash inevitably fell apart which brought me to this thread.
