Can anyone suggest to me, the time required for building a car?

Before everything fell apart with the pandemic, Toyota was typically running at about 6-8 weeks from the time you put in an order something that wasn't on a lot or in the pipeline already until the time you took delivery. I got my 2020 Highlander in about 7 weeks, and I had similar experiences with Tacoma in the past.

It's really taking 4-5 months now?!?

What trim? Gas or Hybrid? 10 weeks is good timing now.
For the OP, hybrid and/or higher level trim are taking longer. I saw on Reddit as low as 7 weeks for an LE gas and 12 weeks for Platinum (prob also gas). Canada vs USA makes a big difference also - Canada's a smaller market & all North American Highlanders are built in Indiana so Canucks get screwed.
I was thinking of asking the same question but didn't want to get flamed so thank's to OP.
Our salesman told me 8 to 12 weeks on Jan 15 for a 22 HiHy Plat. A couple of weeks in, I texted the guy and he said no news and it's all over the map as he could get a mid-level Prius in a couple of weeks but he just got in a 4Runner Premium after 6 months. Been afraid to text him again... how much is too much?
I'd be okay with mid May or June, but July & August are getting kinda late.
I think the chip shortage is a little better than a few months ago but still bad.

4Runners are still made in Japan, so that's not a good guideline for other models made in North America. There are different pandemic issues there, plus the boat trip for the 4Runner.

I completed a factory order for a '22 Highlander XLE front-wheel dr. (pearl white) that was accepted on Feb 1st. The salesperson stated I could expect about 8 to 10 weeks for delivery. I thought I would come here to see what the going consense was here. Nothing unusual or special about the order.

Thank you for your thoughts.

I just heard back from the salesman last weekend. He got me an allocation for our Blueprint with Glazed Caramel interior 2022 Highlander Hybrid Platinum AWD with tow hitch (AWD & hitch come on every Highlander sold in our area). Production date is March 24th with delivery 6 to 8 weeks after that.

Order date: 1/15/2022
Original estimate: 6 to 8 weeks so this weekend to mid-March
Actual production: 3/24/22 with delivery between May 5th to 19th

I knew that the original estimate was probably a little rosy but didn't think it'd be 10 weeks longer. Just looking forward to getting it.

I ordered my Highlander Platinum AWD in Ruby Flare Pearl with Glazed Caramel interior, all-weather mats, body side molding, and a hitch. Order went in on 5th or 6th of Jan, picked it up last Friday (2/18). Dealer said mine came in quicker than most. Another guy who ordered his before I ordered mine was still waiting. So it kind of seems like a crap shoot...

Wow that sucks. So strange how different the waiting times are. My dealer apparently put in a color change request/add hitch on a vehicle they were already alloted but hadn't been built yet. My salesman sent me a text saying that the change request went through so that may be why mine came as soon as it did. I'm not sure if that's the norm or not...

It ain't getting any better, but it seems that Toyota is seemingly build to order now which I like. Just have to pay MSRP or higher and wait. Things can change if orders get canceled and this makes the allocation specialists jobs at the Toyota offices more challenging in order to match customers with cars coming out of the plant.

Well. Guess what ........??? I received a call from the dealer this morning. and picked up our new Highlander XLE Pearl White.

From Toyota accepting my order on Feb 1st to delivery with keys in my hand today for my Pearl Highlander was just 28 days. We are so pleased with the outcome of this transaction

We placed our Highlander Hybrid XLE Ruby Red Pearl on March 4, supposed to be built this week. Has the number 12 in the vin number.

We are about 2.5 hrs away from the Indiana plant. So I am hoping that speeds things up. Super excited to get it here.

I've seen at least a half dozen Toyota commercials everyday this month for the Hybrid version emphasizing the mileage. As if there's a bunch sitting around on lots, lol. People can't get the ones their waiting on/ordered. Must want people to show up at dealers and be told "ehh, maybe I can get you in a 2023 in the fall".

I have a 2013 that I've enjoyed since it was new...Once I heard Toyota was deleting the V6 for 2023, I went to the dealer to order a new one. I gave my deposit on 6/24/22 for a windchill pearl AWD V6. I'm a little nervous it won't be manufactured in time and they will try to send me a 2023 4 cylinder turbo (which I will not take). If that happens, I will drive my 2013 into the ground!
