"Upgrading" to tilt steering column.. is it worth it?

So I have a 1993 Geo Prizm, I had just gotten an instrument cluster with the tach, swapped my speedo in (which I'll probably swap out cuz the difference in the color of the needles is driving me crazy), and I was wondering why it was such a pain to get everything in. I realized it was cuz the junkyard car had the tilting steering column. Now when I drive I notice the steering wheel a little in my view. It makes me think maybe I should just swap one in.

Has anyone removed the steering column before? Where is the location where the main/intermediate shafts meet? Can you replace the key cylinder easily, or am I gonna have to deal with the "tapered bolts" with the heads that brake off, and if so, are they a real pain to remove? Is there anything else I need to consider?

I have access to TIS, and it doesn't look that bad, but if it's something I can't finish in a day or so it might not be worth it, it is my daily driver. Any thoughts?

If I remember correctly, Weazler and a few others swapped to tilt columns, but the have Corolla's and not Prizms. I can't imagine it being any different though. I've been contemplating this too, and I think all you need to do is drop the lower dash, disconnect the column cover, disconnect any plugs, disconnect the universal joint (keep it too), remove four bolts and it's out. If you don't want the steering wheel, then you might have to do some repinning of the clock spring because I think the horn pin is in a different spot. Hopefully one of the people who has done it can confirm/deny/add some info.

I would. My first Corolla wasn't tilt steering and it was very annoying. But yes it should be able to be done in a couple days

...all you need to do is.....
I laugh every time I read someone say this. It never winds up being that easy.

as long as you take the u-joint and shaft from the tilt column, it really is that easy... greatest "factory" upgrade you can do to a rolla. 2 nuts and 2 bolts hold the column in. and a single bolt on the shaft and its done... great mod for everyone.

I know, I was just giving you a hard time. For me or you, it probably is easy. But the OP is probably not familiar with our cars like we are so for him to take this apart for the first time is always new unforeseen territory. On a side note, if you get the tilt option, also find one with the intermittent wipers as well. It would be a double upgrade and no extra work needed. The circuitry is in the combination switch so it's basically plug and play.
