With remote start "pressing lock 3X on remote" the engine stops running as soon as you unlock the doors. You have to still press the start button to drive off. This be great if ever the start button say breaks in 10 years but nope forget that feature to me its worthless and dumb! Any way to modify this feature so the car starts and stays running? Tried the feature while inside the car. It started and moment put foot on break it stops. Open door and alarm goes off.

I think there’s an aftermarket one available but it would mean a second key fob unless you wanted to remove the smart key functionality.

This is among my biggest annoyances with the car. It at least runs for up to ten minutes. It’s intended to cool it down on hot days and warm it up on cold ones. Toyota says it’s a safety feature to have it turn off when unlocked. My thought it that it doesn’t start unless the doors are locked, and the car notices that the doors are unlocked when you go to get in, and Toyota just didn’t find a cost-effective way to prevent that would be my guess.

I installed a Fortin remote start in my Infiniti Q60.
Fortin is compatible with the 2019/2020 Corolla, check it out.
On my Q60, super simple install.
To start, push lock 3x, car starts.
Entering car is normal, door unlocks and opens like normal.
Sit in car (with keyless fob in pocket) and press brake pedal, car acknowledges the key fob by flashing the running lights, you are now good to drive. The car never shuts off.

Works far better than the Corolla!

The Fortin remote start units that takemorepills mention DO NOT allow the engine to remain running when the door is opened. You will still need to start the car again.

No aftermarket remote-start that I'm aware of allows the engine on a modern Toyota to remain running upon door opening. This is a Toyota quirk which Toyota's engineers have programmed into the electronics that I don't think anyone has been able to overcome. This quirk has been discussed ad nauseam here at TN.

I doubt it. Toyota, Volkswagen and some others would rather not share their "handshaking" codes for remote start with third party. There is a code for remote start and another one for proximity start (otherwise anybody would have access to a car once remote start is pushed). Stopping the engine upon opening door is a way to go from one to another. Having the two codes in one remote is another that some manufacturers deemed less secure from a car electronic perspective (and it's a growing concern). I understand it might be annoying to have the engine stop but in actuality it doesn't make any difference in what the driver has to do : with both systems one still has to unlock the door and confirm start by pushing a button and/or brake pedal.

It's how Toyota/Lexus does it and they have been doing this, the same way, since 2007 or earlier than that, with the LS I believe. Also, I have not seen an aftermarket remote starter that bypasses the unlocked door. It's hardwired to shut down the engine when the doors are unlocked and it might be for safety reasons, at least toyota's standard of safety, or something.

Hmmm. I am sure Toyota designed the car and engine with the Remote Start in mind. Thus it's engineered to be turned on and off with the remote start reliably. We don't know if there is a difference between how the engine starts/performs and what it does when the remote start engine is activated compared to when you start it inside the car. Maybe the reason why it shuts down when you open the door is because whatever the engine/electronics are doing, it can't drive the car and needs to be restarted to get into driving mode? Just my two cents.
