Whats with being so hostile?

Im just wondering why some people that modify their cars are so secretive and hostile about their mods...what is it about no one else knowing whats on your car and how you got it or made it thats so important? I have always felt really open about my setup and showing it to other people as well as helping them to do the same thing. I mean no matter what, no one is going to have the same car as mine, I have no reason to be secretive about it.

I understand people want to be different and I respect that, Im not meaning to bust anyones chops here... I just think that sharing is part of the community and showing off what you have and how you got there is something to be proud of, not to keep a secret from everyone.

what do you guys think? Just wanted to share an opinion thats been building for quite a while now- and its simply that, an opinion- not meant to offend anyone:D

With my first car i was really open and cool with curious people and i would talk to show anyone my stuff especially my stereo, well didn't that get stolen in my high schools parking lot by the @$$ holes that were in my classes that i shared with.

Since then i tend to be more careful who i share with, i have had some fairly shady people wanna know a thing to much. I have been asked what kinda alarm i have, and even better where and how the alarm system is installed! like WTF you really expect me to tell you why not just hand you the keys and the ownership!

you wanna know how i made my front grille or were i found lowering springs, or what wheels and tires i have, no problem be glad to share, but theres just some stuff your not gonna know!

I imagine that some people don't want to let out the secrets for how they did stuff. If I'm out and people ask where I live, I don't tell them anything too specific, because that's just odd.

If there is anything that I don't share with people, it's not what I have, but how I made it work. I don't always feel like telling someone exactly how to do something that took me ages to figure out on my own.

Some of the racer guys are certainly more secretive about their gear, because money might be on the line.

Alright, that makes sense to me I suppose... I just feel like if someone has the time and energy and resources, they can find anything. but I understand wanting to be different i suppose...

as for sharing, to clarify, I meant here on the forum. I understand why no one would show off their stereo at school or whats under the hood etc, thats just a dumb move

everything I have changed in my car I have tried to keep as decret as possible. When my stereo is off it's black doesn't stand out from my dash, short shifter just has a trd emblem on the side nothing special. gts seats look stock since they are out of another stock corolla, rims are gun metal so they hopefully won't stand out as much as a chrome one

It's happened before with Cardomain and various forums. People will browsw the forum or website and scope out vehicles in there area, they usually end up with clear pics of where shtis isntalled in a car and so on and so forth. Thats why alot of people don't share alot of specifics even on TN. With such a big broad community any new (or old) user could jsut be waiting to steal your stuff.

Bingo! If I had a modded car, I woulnd't post anything about it. Only the people I know and that I trust would know about the mods. Here in Ottawa, car theft is getting out of hand, I know too many guys with modded cars who got their cars broken into last summer and this summer will probably be worse. It's not about being selfish or greedy, it's about wanting to protect the amount of money and time you spend on your car.

i guess that makes sense, i mean car theft isnt big here really in my area and neither is modifying (especially camrys) so i dont really see it as a problem. I just was thinking about when someone mentions getting something for their car, they dont even have it yet, and they wont even show what t is or who makes. thats kind of annoying to me because everyones gonna find out anyway, I guess i dont see the point, but again to each his own

bottom line, if people want your car or your parts, they are gonna get em. thats my two cents, but i guess posting online could help in that stealing

I share with those I think can "handle the truth"

I like to get a feel for someone's level of knowledge. If someone seems like they're about capable of changing some fluids, I'm not going to spend a lot of time disecting turbocharger selection theories. Not to say I won't try to help...I still want to try to help improve other's knowledge...just as I hope someone does for me when I need the advice. Spoon feeder wannabes need to be kicked in the arse though...and you see them everywhere

Forumuser1 - "I just got my car, now tell me in the exact order how to mod the car to be like yours"

Reply -"search "

Forumuser1 - "just tell me...I aint gots no time to be readun"

lol

and I'm paranoid of theft, and people recognize my car as well

but I just about ALWAYS park my car inside

personally, I don't even see why people modifiy their cars if they don't have a garage to park it in- when I move out for grad school, I will only move to a place with a garage- it's not worth the hassle and stress of worrying about theft

even if they don't steal the car, and just take the ice in the car, that's already a couple thousand dollars

People copied my shit when I told people what I was doing. So I stopped. People have no creativity or talent for art. So, when I got my new kit, I decided to get something that NO ONE could get. I was getting tired of the "where did you get your wing?" and then I saw the same person with the same parts. I was just getting tired of that.

I dont like to share because my ride may not be done, I wanna suprise myself and others on any forum...

About that dood with the widebody solara, I had seen on solaraguy that someone took pics of his car without him knowing and posted them last year... which sucks...

I had posted a foglight thread then took the pic off, cus people start hitting you up with "I want them", but I wanna be the greedy bastard to have them first.....

I have little dogs that wont rip your face off, but I do have a Glock if the alarm goes off.

And to the dude that started this thread, why is it that it bothers you so much??? If someone doesn't want to share, or changed their mind about sharing on a thread, let it be....

Well when it comes to my cars, I'm not really secretive about anything, unless it's really something I don't want anyone to be copying. Theft really isn't an issue for, since if someone actually really wants to break in my car they would have a hard time. I rarely have my car anywhere thats out of my eyesight for too long or out anyones eyesight. Liek when I go out, I don't take my car.

I didnt say it bothered me man... i was just curious. I guess the foglight thread kind of prompted this to be honest, I mean I dont see why people are selfish like that... but you have every right to be and i mean no offense, i am just trying to understand a mindset different from my own, thats all;) no harm meant whatsoever, it doesnt bother me, i just thought it would be an interesting topic. im not one for arguing on the internet:lol:
