My 4 month old 2010 corolla was broken into last night in a quite busy neighborhood, smashed the rear triangular vent window glass, got away with a bag of pennies and quarters, nothing visible were in the car but dirty tissue and empty plastic bags. went to various auto site to find the replacement glass, no success.

Then headed to the dozens of auto glass shop near Willets Point CITI field, one guy quotes me 70, then went to another quote me 110, asked why such difference, he said he has the this model of glass and that guy with 70 is from 09 model, don't fit exactly. Won't even show me the glass. Is there such thing?

Anyone know where to get the original glass if there is one.

Thanks

Glass from an 09 is the same as the 10. FYI - have your windows tinted as it will make it harder to see inside your car & it adds strength to the glass. On my old 82 Tercel someone kept trying to break the window with a steel bar of some sort. I could even see where they were hitting the glass but it didn't break with the added strength of the tint.

First of all, I know people like to assume the dealer is going to be ridiculously expensive all the time. People even use terms like stealership, etc. But honestly, if you don't call them first to check, you should because sometimes they're relatively competitively priced.

In any case, that glass from Toyota is about $30, and it is the same for 2009-2011.

This isn't tint related, but just a great video of failed attempts to break a window fail-window-smashing.

I'm pretty sure he messed up his arm badly on the last take.
I think he was on Tosh.0 for a web redemption, and he sliced his hand or arm up pretty bad on some broken glass in that video.

I thought tint would only hold a broken glass together in an impact. I cant really picture why it would add any strength.

Tint won't add much strength but will hold it together if it is broken. Windows are notoriously hard to smash if you are hitting them with a blunt object. The glass absorbs the impact well. Something pointy makes is really easy to do. You can put an icepick against a window and push and it will shatter into a thousand pieces. However I have seen bricks bounce off side windows if they hit it flat side first.

Im also in Queens and had my front passenger window broken last week. I did have tint and that did NOT help! 90 percent of window was smashed. This has been happening all over queens they had to see my iphone charger I left plugged in and assumed i had stuff in glove box, they left me with out my gps and a broken window.

I felt very secure in that I had the stock toyota vip alarm and all windows tinted and that did not help. Im thinking about getting a viper but then again by the time i go to my car the "bad guy" could already have run off! I also fear the new DVD GPS oem headunit will attract attention sigh:::

also the front passenger glass and install was 125 at a place in brooklyn.

been hassled the whole day. Drive between shops, finally get the idea that Im no way can get a original vent windows glass, even I did, it would be way to expensive. had to get the aftermarket glass they showed me. Total $60 for the replace. Not a good experience. bad ppl are targeting corolla these day around my neighborhood, have seen some corolla vent window glass smashed.

Makes me happy that my Corolla stays in the garage unless I'm driving it. I hated those days 20+ years ago before I owned a home & my Tercel & MR2 where parked on the street. I was nervous every time that I walked up to it that someone had screwed with it. :headbang:

Damn crack heads.

I lived in San Francisco and every single car parked on my street at night would be broken into by morning. Anything visible and people would just break windows one at a time until they covered the entire street.

I had a project back then where we filmed the block http://www.justin.tv/adamsblock/b/259315700

You can see the kind of crap that went down. I never would have owned a car there. You'd replace your windows every week.

Also - car chase http://www.justin.tv/adamsblock/b/259317769
and pedestrians getting hit - http://www.justin.tv/adamsblock/b/259285453

S'orry to thread-jack here but ya know, I've seen worst shit happen :)
