I hope that you haven't been trying to pry the tire with a pry bar. I would just recommend taking the rim off of the car and just taking the rim to a tire shop....they have the special tools that can safely take the tire off the rim without damaging the tire or the rim.

 

You likely are dealing with corrosion on the hub. Try knock the tire in several offset places. 11 and 5 o clock positions should work.

 

Loosen the lugs and let the weight of the car break the wheel loose, just a couple of turns loose.

 

Just what I was thinking too!

 

Big piece of wood, then start smacking it on the rim until it comes out.

 

Are you trying to dismount the tire while it's on the car? Or are you trying to remove the wheel/tire, so that you can put the spare on?

If it's the latter, the wheel is seized to the brake disc. Since you can't get it off from beating on it from behind, call a tow truck, hopefully you're not on the emergency jack. Hopefully you have AAA or roadside assistance on your car insurance, then they can try to remove the seized wheel from the brake rotor, in a safer manner.

 

To take off tire it won't come off

 

On that note, if you are trying to unmount the tire... take it to the shop.

 

Next time you mount/rotate try some anti-seize on the tire rim/wheel hub contact points. Careful to keep it off brakes/lugs.

 

Steel or alloy?

 

I've used the film of grease on both. It's a simple thing to do and the wheels slip off easily without any issues.

 

They are steel on our corollas. We badly underestimated how damaging it is in pa w/o a garage for both cars. The one mine who else parks outside in the wet on grass. Could have built a concrete pad I guess. Life got in the way. I guess its helpful if buying new to get the optional undercoat?.

 

Just make sure you work on a solid surface. If you want to undercoat your car, do it yourself. It's much cheaper.

 

If the wheel gets stuck again, just buy some wood from your local hardware store and hit it with that.

 

Just hook up the car with hydraulics and bounce the wheels loose. More fun that way.

 

Without reading other posts. with lug nuts on loosened. shake car, tire frees. that will use the cars weight. problem solved.

FISH

 

Had same problem once on front wheel.
A. Loosen lug nuts a few turns.
B. Startt car.
C. While stopped, turn steering wheel full lock left right left right until the torque pops the wheel/tire combo loose from the hub.

I've wire brushed the hubs, then added anti-sieze to prevent it happening next time.
Grease not as good as it heats up from heavy braking or hot summer day, drips off.

shaking the car with lug nuts off could bend a stud... last time mine were stuck I used brake fluid that I poured on the hub, and sat down in front of the wheel with back support and kick it very hard with both feets about 10 times, if it doesnt work, more fluid/penetrating oil and wait more. then kick it some more

 

more or less I face away and the back of my foot a kick, done. Yeah why I loosen enough, as well one said move fwd/rev.

 

 

Wow, we're in trouble if that is what most of the younger generation is like.

 

Their issue is most likely different and they resorted to that as a last resort. In addition, it seems late and I would be pissed off too.

 

Some dumbass put a rim on with not enough center opening diameter and then swaged it on the flange. Never seen that done before.

 

Lucky a piece of the rim didn't blow out and hit them in the eye, maybe they were bright enough to let the air out.
