i bet its a 10 mm bolt, almost every bolt that i have taken off or removed off of mine was a 10mm

It isn't exactly a regular bolt, it has a collar on it so it won't crush the plastic on the cover.

I pulled one off my air box looking for a replacement. The washer that the bolt goes through is actually connected on there, which holds the pieces together in that slot on the air box. IIRC the bottom of the bolt is unthreaded and the threading starts about half way up. I bought a whole set of metric washers/bolts trying to find one that fit but had no luck.

Have any of you that are saying to measure the bolt actually looked at it? It is not a normal bolt that you can find in a hardware store.

or modify a standard bolt, modify the cover to take a standard bolt or go to the junkyard.

I believe the bolt is a 4 x 1.75 x 30, you can use a regular metric bolt with a washer, and reuse the collar from the old bolt.

the dealership is lying to you, my air filter bolt broke in half (the other half was still lodged in the lower part of the air filter box) they got the other half out some how and put a new bolt in its place. no ordering of parts of any sort

 

That is indeed a none servicable item from Toyota; you need to get the whole upper air cleaner housing. However, you can modify a standard bolt to work in its place.

Found these on ebay !! Worked out great for me !! a bit pricey for a bolt, but I didn't have to spend $250.00 for the cover to get them! Damn Dealers !!

I googled the bolt and found a number of suppliers, including eBay and Amazon

The OEM torque value for that bolt is less than four foot pounds so don't do a Godzilla number on them when you replace the filter element. Snug them down using only the top of the ratchet in the palm of your hand. It doesn't take much to affect a seal if the element is installed correctly. Be sure the top back lugs of the cover are engaged and that the cover indexes with the housing. When installing small fasteners, less is always the best practice. Or if you are going to work on your vehicle yourself, purchase a good foot pound and inch pound torque wrench and use them.Regards

 

But I rather use an oversized torque wrench and risk snapping bolts than risk snapping bolts with a smaller ratchet.
