I'd like to quantify the issues people are having to see if there is significant number of problems. I'm looking to get a SE V6 and after seeing so many posts under Sunroof/AC/Entune issues I'm having second thoughts. Thank you.

?? Sorry for ignorance.... when you say horrible transmission shifting I assume you are referring to an automatic transmission with jerky shifting or hesitation? Or do you mean a manual transmission in your SE 2012 or 2013?
Also I think this is the first I've heard of this problem..... can it be adjusted at all? (Or do you wish to keep this to more of a list.... I can always ask on another place).

As I said in a previous post, my only issue is a fairly minor one with the Entune/Pandora connection with my iphone 4. I work around it with not connecting the phone with the USB cable. Road noise isn't an issue with me as I have been driving Hondas since 1976. They have been and are still much noisier than Toyotas. No noise with my sunroof and my AC doesn't smell. I suppose I would also like the trunk lid to open a bit higher.

Hi ...
Don't know if this will be the 'same' issue, but I was looking on the Corolla forum to see if Corollas had the same problems as the new Camrys in this regard and happened to find - not in answer to my post there, but a separate one in the 10th generation (2009-2013) forum on engine/transmission I think it was, and the post said there was a TSB for the 2009 Corolla "S" re: a/c odor from the vents. Don't know if
1. this will help you
2. if this is the same issue
3. but perhaps it is worth looking at. I am sorry I don't know how to link it up. Maybe someone else can do so.

J.

Sun/Moon Roof Tilt Up/Down switch acting up. I have to press and hold for a bout 5-7 seconds for it to work where as the open/close only need a push.

My Sienna Open/Close/Up/Down Sun/Moon Roof also fuk up. Took to 2 dealers and they said working as expected/unable to reproduce. I showed them the video recording of it not working and they still insist "unable to reproduce". I just told them don't tell me it "Not working" when factory warranty over because I'll keep these paperwork to shovel down your throat if you say so.

Seriously, my cheaper Toyota Matrix didn't have any issue in 8 years. Sunroof worked wonderful.

I thought about saying something about the TSB for my trans shifting when I took it in for the 6 month service, but I decided against it as I had a slight pop noise I was already having them look at. Whenever it shifts funny I just think if you (the car) wants to shift more than you need, then go for it, it's not any more work for me!! Lol

Driving in Sport mode helps. The shift points aren't much higher...it still shifts around 2000-2500 RPM most of the time, but in Drive, you can feel the torque converter lock and unlock 4-5 times between gears 1-5. In drive, it sometimes feels like it hunts between 2-4 - it'll hold out 1st like it should, go to 2nd, go almost immediately to 3rd, you can hear the engine bog, then it feels like it either unlocks the TC or goes back to 2nd, and then shifts up again.

Oh, and 5th gear jerks on the upshift. And it jerks as it slows to a stop from 3rd-2nd.

"Sport mode" makes it a lot less busy and just use the normal 6 gears instead of all that crazy shifting. We both agree that it makes the car much more enjoyable to drive around-town (our Camry doesn't see the highway a whole lot).

I hate automatics.

jblackburn, do you actually drive around in S mode 6 around town? So you basically start the car, and put it into S mode instead of Drive? Is that something you do everyday, or just every now and then? I may give it a shot to feel the difference!

2012 Camry SE with I4. 3,500 miles. Have the rocking drivers seat and intermittent rattle in drivers side dash. Dealer agreed to fix the drivers seat - waiting on a new rail. Rattle is mysteriously intermittent, couldn't be duplicated for dealer ( of course!). Will see if it gets more pronounced with additional mileage.

No issues to speak of

No roof, AC, steering issues on my XLE I4 w/Michelins. The occasional Entune drop out is an irritation but I seriously think 90% of it is losing Verizon 4G data service, not the Camry's problem (I won't deal with it unless I am on an open freeway w/no cars close by, too much can happen looking at a phone screen for even a second).

All I had go out in 15 months & now 17,700 miles of driving is the 12v battery - I added a thread on that a couple weeks back. There are a handful of design issues I would have engineered different but other than that we still give the car an A for comfort & MPGs. We'll see how the reliability holds out over 10-12 years but so far despite the battery bug I'd rate it quite high too.

The I4 engine has a lot of potential when it's in the right powerband - 0-60 or 50-70 really isn't too bad for what it is, especially compared to a 2000 Camry. The transmission just doesn't like to keep it there - often shifting up too soon or refusing to downshift past 3000 RPM without stomping on the pedal.

Knock retard gets the better of it in the summer in traffic. It hesitates creeping along with traffic at 5-20 MPH with no airflow through the grille and it's inhaling lots of hot air off the radiator/AC condenser.

I really don't get the stinky air conditioning thing. All cars I've owned, including a Ford Escort, Mazda 3, Honda Accord, and Toyota Camry, have potentially suffered from "stinky" air conditioning. This can happen in any car if you don't turn it off a few minutes before turning off the car. I learned that trick from my Honda dealer years ago. In that way, you use the fan to cycle all of the condensation out of the the air conditioner before it can grow any kind of mold/fungus on the inside of the unit.

yes and no.
you right about "This can happen in any car if you don't turn it off a few minutes before turning off the car."
but in reality of all cars I have owned only 07 and 12 camry had this issue.
my wife NEVER ventilates her 2K camry AC. I augured with her about it many times but every time I'm taking her car for something I can see AC and recirculation ON. same was with older 2001 camry. car had no AC filter, AC never was ventilated (I just didn't know that I have to do it :)) evaporator never been cleaned but AC never smelled....
never ventilated AC in my subaru, BMW, passat, accord and never had stinky AC issue.

I recently replaced both of my cars:
Had a '98 Camry with a 2.2L 4-cylinder
Had a '08 Scion xB with (previous generation) Camry's 2.4L 4-cylinder

The 2013 Camry shifts better, has more power from the get-go, and on the freeway, then both of these cars.

Also, your experience depends on what other cars you drive. The Camry always feels like a beast after I drive my Prius.

The 2.4L 4cyl is out. The Camry has the new 2.5L 4cyl  :)

Yea, I think your right about it matters what other cars you drive. I came from a 3.5 V6, so it was quite a bit faster than the 2.5L 4cyl that the Camry has. But I drive a '12 RAV almost daily and it has the same 2.5L motor as the Camry. The RAV is 100% quicker in city driving, but that can probably be contributed to the 4 speed trans in the RAV and the 6 speed in the Camry.

Thats also probably why the Camry shifts like 3 times when the RAV only shifts once!
