Summer time means summer getaways, and while I normally opt to rent a car for a long weekend, I am tempted this weekend to drive my 12 SE. Total distance is approx 800 miles, which would be a true chance to get the car on the open road.

What's the furthest you have driven in your camry in one trip?

End of the month, we'll be heading up to Maine from the city for a little R&R in the TCH. Will have to keep my luxury toys to a minimum due to trunk space. It'll test comfort level in the interior and true mileage under the hood. Looking forward.

Anyone heading out, have a safe excursion.............elliot

100 miles round trip. I want to keep my baby young :D LOL. I recently went up north (CA) and rented a Yaris. The Yaris drives okay but too much wind noise but to it's credit, no interior noise.

I'm opposite that, I buy the most awesome car I could so I can enjoy it. I want to enjoy it on long trips too. A reliable car doesn't affect much by age. It keep going. Only time I rent is when I have to, like fly to another state.

This is also why I had to sell my Camry '07 SE V6. It sits in the dealer too often. They give me free rental but it's a freaking Corolla. I paid extra for my Camry SE so I can enjoy driving it, not have it sit in the dealer and I have to drive a cheap ass Corolla that don't even have power window.

Nothing against the Corolla. It's a wonderful car and I do love those Corollas. I appreciate the dealer cover the rental bill too. But I did not BUY a Corolla, I bought and paid for a Camry SE. The tech that design the '07 V6 screw up big time and the car had too many problems. They push it out too early with all the known problems not fix/redesign. (known cause that engine been in other vehicles previous to this release, and they still didn't fix those problems when they release the '07 models)

Anyway, seem like Toyota step back to their reliable standard after that '07 models.

already took 4 trips (90+ miles one way) to Texoma lake and absolutely happy with comfort, acceleration, MPG and was able to fit all my junk in the trunk vs putting some on the back seat.
even tough gen 7 feels smaller it got bigger cabin and trunk vs gen 6. it also more comfortable and quiter.
I had only one issue: frigging insects and mosquitoes.
whole front end of the car was covered by insect remains so I combined very heavy rain and power washer to clean them off.
next time I applied Armor All on headlights, bumper, grill, "attacking" edge of the hood and door mirrors housings and was able to wipe away all those dead bodies :) in 3 min.

or better yet, duck tape the whole front. Take it off when you get there.

14.5 miles when I drove it home from the dealer 3 weeks ago

My commute is only 6.5 miles each way, and everywhere else I've gone has been even closer.

Since it's a Hybrid, I still have half the full tank of gas the dealer gave me. :D
At this rate it's going to be a long time before it's broken in

those r not Camry's.

Mine has been on a few 500+ mile trips. No complaints aside from wishing it had dual-zone climate. Otherwise, good ride, good mileage, pretty quiet, acceptable seats.
can you shut one side off? that basically what dual zone does anyway. You sit about 5 inches away from each other. I tried to put the dual zone to good use many times, never work out. Just link the 2 together for easy temperature setting.

So did the seats in the Gen 7 go down in quality compared to the Gen 6?

I've only driven my Grandparent's 2012 Camry XLE relatively short distance (10-12 miles) and didn't think the seats were any less comfortable than my 2009 Camry SE. But 12 miles isn't the same as a long road trip. I never had problems taking 1,000+ mile trips in my 09 Camry (I've done 6 of them).

Is there a difference between the manual seats and the electronic adjustable seats when it comes to side and lumbar support?

Shrug. I've never considered Toyotas cloth seats to be comfortable. The 2012 Camrys are definitely the best yet - but still very stiff after 2 hours. Highlander, Corolla, previous gen Camrys...all completely awful and flat. I'm skinny, so maybe that's what the difference is, but the cloth seats in an old Buick, my Cruze, and a Saab have all been just hunky dory by my back side.

The leather seats may be a bit better, but I'm not a fan of black leather in the summer after owning a dark colored car, and I can't stand tan interiors in the least.

Yes, tires are stock - Im not changing tires with 7000 miles on them. And the suspension absolutely fails at soaking up bumps like a car with the name "Camry" on it should do. The LE wasnt much better in my opinion.

Overall, I think it's a car with good intentions that missed the mark. As is just about everything in the midsized class - all have some drawbacks from trying to be something they just weren't meant to be - comfortable people haulers, not a sports car.

It really does seem like cars from the 90s just got this right. The 93-96 Camry? Great car. The 86-93 Accord? Great car. Very comfortable, great handling, very slow. Buick Century? Like sitting on your living room couch. They were boring, reliable appliances and didn't pretend to be sporty and didn't compromise on creature comforts.

Wife and I did 2600 mile trip to Memphis from eastern PA in our 2012 TCH XLE. Even after sitting up to 4 hours in driver or passenger seat, I have to say it was the least stressful, most comfortable trip we've ever driven.

GPS and Sirius radio (both things I thought I could live without) were definitely a plus. I finally loaded up a new car (skipped the faux leather seats, had the cloth seats heated via dealer install) and I don't regret it.

Oh, and the TCH gave us 41.2 MPG for the whole trip. Considering mountains in W VA and VA, that was icing on the cake!

Drove 998 plus miles from Springfield Gardens NY to St. Charles MO last summer to school in my 12 SE and 3 weeks ago I drove from St. Charles MO to Chicago then to NY which was 1121 miles for that trip and I had no problems with the seat comfort.

Drove a round trip from from Portland Oregon to Vancouver BC in my TCH. The hybrid system gave me nearly 42 MPG which allowed me to travel the full distance (620 miles total including some city driving) on one tank of gas. The faux seats were very comfortable and the 8-way electric adjustment allowed to get the perfect adjustment for a long road trip. Coming from a European car, I can sure say that the 2012 Camry has a very luxurious feel on a long road trip.

Regular 210 mi trips

We bought the XLE I4 w/leather seats to be a road car and are very satisfied with interior comfort, low noise, and general style/usability after 17,900 mis.
At 6'4" tall I fit better in this Camry w/sunroof than our former Chrysler 300. The seat sits higher and the drivers side has a grab bar meaning it's much easier to exit that the 300 was (I am not quite 60 and in good shape but having some arthritis in the hips). We make regular 210 mi trips to southern Wisconsin and plan to make a 1600 mi winter snowbird drive over 3 days to S FL this winter, that will be the real test of comfort, but so far we are very satisfied. I never owned an early Camry to compare it against, however did frequent test drives of Camry and Accord in the past 20 years and this 2012 was the first the made it into the "final four" and eventual top pick.

Just finished an 850 mile round trip from Albuquerque, NM to the Grand Canyon, AZ. Ride was quite comfortable. We're both over age 65 with the usual aches and complaints of being that age - but the 2012 Camry SE I4 just purred along the whole way. Got 39.6 miles per gallon going West and 39.7 MPG heading back East on I-40. Put the cruise control on 65 MPH and just leaned back in the driver's seat and relaxed. :D
