My windshield has streaks from the old wipers. When I drive at night, all the lights show up in streaks making it very hard to see.

I tried washing the inside and outside of the windshield with isopropyl alcohol which did not work.
I also tried wiping it with a clay bar which didn't work either.

Any suggestions before i spend the money on a new windshield..?

Thanks

You need new blades. I use Bosch aero blades and they are highly rated and tested to perform great.
To clean your window use a Mr Clean magic eraser. Just water and scrub for both inside and outside windows.
Streaks are from blades not the glass. If your glass feels rough you can use a razor blade and glass cleaner to scrap off anything bonded to the window.

I have a very streaky windshield too. Will using some windex and mr. Clean magic eraser be sufficient? Or do I need to get any special cleaning compound?

You need a light polish. All the wipes with dirt and sand and etc have scratched it with fine scratches. Take it to a detailer or get a new windshield

Cerium Oxide and a glass polishing pad will give you the best results, but it is a very time consuming and messy process and you need a lot of patience, and make sure you dont overheat the glass. Dont expect miracles though, most people that try it dont give the process enough time to work and get frustrated.

The best rated glass polish is CarPro Ceriglass, but don't use it by hand as that would be a complete waste of time, use a detailing machine, such as a Dual Action Random Orbital Car Polisher, with a glass specific pad.

Perfect, thanks!! I’ll give the mr magic eraser a shot with some windex. Already got new wiper blades in preparation. I ran my finger on the windshield and didn’t feel any grittiness to it. So hopefully it’s quick and painless.

Turns out I was overly optimistic. Upon closer inspection those are not streaks but fine scratches caused by worn out wiper blades.
Come to think of it, the car has completely shot wiper blades when I got the car....

Time for cerium oxide and a buffing pad?

The glass on my Sienna is scratched (front power windows, rear hatch window), nothing to do with cleaning. If you can "feel" a scratch with your fingernail it will never polish out, too much glass would have to be removed so be very careful with that process.
The scratching is caused by the door wipers being very dirty and over the years will scratch the glass itself.
Replacement of the window is the only sure cure.
On the Sienna I had to replace the windshield at 22 years age and that got rid of the scratches.
To prevent further damage clean you wiper blades regularly and clean the outer seals on windows that you can open and close regularly. First cleaning should be fairly aggressive with follow ups using less aggressive methods.

It's actually the dirt on the wiper blades that few clean properly to avoid the scratching. Clean the blades with window cleaner and you have solved the problem as far as further damage. Try it wiht a paper towel and clean it until the paper stops getting dirty, or replace them. My blades last until they split at the ends, about 5 years, but my car stays in my garage.

Yep I agree. I change my blades once every 2-3 years. Once they start to streak even a little, out they go. Pretty much all my glass windshields get the same treatment and I’ve never had issues with scratches. I also notably never use the wiper if the windshield is overly dusty or has accumulated trash where the blade sits. I just wash it off before ever using it unless it’s emergency situation.
