Xpeed's Gen 4 Camry build

I just picked this up last night. A 1997 Camry CE 5-spd with 120K miles. It's going to be my new daily driver since I don't like to see $100 at the pump every week. Considering how much I got it for, it's actually a steal. But because I got it at night, I couldn't really see all the issues inside the car, but the engine was in good shape, no knocking or smoke. It ran well when I drove it back home. Only stalled twice but that's due to downtown LA potholes. The clutch felt good and all.

This morning tells a whole new story though. I found some "issues." Engine mount needs to be replaced, washer nozzle on the driver side needs to be checked, door handle trims needs to be replaced, needs new floor mats, the clock doesn't light up, front passenger door handle needs to be replaced, headlight needs to be cleaned from severe oxidization, and needs a new paint job. So it's going to take a bit to get it back to it's original state. No modding here.

I'll let the picture do the talking but it's not as bad as it looks.

So far, I replaced the license plate lights to LEDs since they were already out, ordered some LEDs for the interior and trunk, a TRD Shift Knob, new hubcaps   Shift boot, new Philips HB2 Bulbs.

I'm taking it to the shop tomorrow to see if there's any more issues and have them repaired if needed. I'll be getting it tinted, have an alarm installed and install power locks for the driver side only.

After that, it's going to the body shop to get repainted. I'm thinking of Magnetic Gray Metallic found on the new Gen 6.5 Camrys.

Well, it's good to be back.

I installed my new bumper that I worked on. I'm currently liking it how it looks but I think I'll do some further sketches to see if it'll look cleaner with the outer sides of the air dams went straight down or at a 120 degree angle instead of the 80 degree it's currently at. I'm also going to install some LED DRLs at the outer sides of the air dam.

Got the exhaust and Whiteline sway bar installed. I'll post up video of the exhaust soon.

Due to the crappy audio mic on the camera, the sound is better in person.

Some updates since last time. New door moldings and a TRD FSB. One of the bolts on the strut mounts was screwed in too tightly. I'm guessing my mechanic that did my suspensions used an impact wrench on it since it took me an hour, that's 1 hour to unscrew all but one. The last one ended up being a stubborn SOB and I ended up stripping two sides making it useless for me to try unscrewing it out. I might have to end up going to my mechanic and PAY him to take it out for me. It'll suck donkey balls if I have to end up cutting that damn stud and replace it, causing a free job to a $$$ job. Damn it.

So in the mean time, I'm going to repaint the FSB and repair a hairline crack on one of the wheels.

The door molding painted and installed. Finally looks respectable.

^ That's on my list. I'm going to get the bumpers and door moldings all at once before getting it painted. So it's more of a waiting game now.

Yeah! Got them on finally. Found out I also needed three new studs for one wheel since the last owner botched it up and forced screwed it on there. Unscrewed it while snapping the stud off in half. So from a $20 job, it went up to $100. =[ Also found out I need to replace my knuckles and tie rods and bushings. All of the bolts and holes are stripped. No wonder my steering feels "off"

Oh wells. Like the look and stance. Not too agressive or "soft" haha. Last things on the list. New bumpers, paint job, and custom exhaust system.

Finally got some better tail lights. JDM imitation yo! Let me tell you, these DEPO lights are pretty bad. I had to fabricate the socket holes to make it fit to the OEM bulb sockets. These are badly designed and molded incorrectly. So for those who are going to get these, be prepared to do some custom fitting. A dremel kit is your friend.

Thanks guys.
Some update. Finally painted, cleared, and wet sanded my TRD front lip and installed them. I wanted to go with the two-tone. I think black looks good with the gold beige for the Gen 4. Also, it's not really black, it's more metallic black. I'm going to get the TRD side skirts and rear lips soon.

^ They're a kit much like the CF vinyls but is a hard plastic. The C pillar though, I took out the original cover and replaced it with the one in the kit. =)
