WTH is up with some Prius drivers?

It's actually more common for me since I commute in West L.A. I see many morons in a Prius drive SLOW and when you try to pass them, they gun it trying to block you from passing. Sometimes they just cut you off thinking that they're some protected species.

This morning I was passing one that was going 50mph on the freeway. I was going to pass from the left and the moron accelerates to block me from passing him. I was like WTF? The road was pretty much clear. I dropped a gear and passed the piece of shit approaching 90mph. I have a slow Camry but the idiot couldn't catch up. I looked at the rear view mirror and the ricer has those blue colored fog lights, amber colored fog lights and e-Bay HID kits. It also had the typical ricer blacked out wheels.

I was like, are you effing kidding me? A wanna be racer in a Prius?!
Makes me with I was driving my F250 so I can tail gate him, turn on all my Hellas and put 4 tons of American steel inches away from his plastic ass.

Hmmm...

Driving 90mph in a city ... "perfect" spelling and grammar ... classic road-rage behavior ...

I wonder who's a bigger idiot in this incident?

Once my husband and I were on the Interstate driving home from a nearby town. A guy in a Prius with his wife in the passenger seat decides he's going to fly up behind us like a bat out of hell (mind you, we were already going about 10 mph OVER the speed limit).

We were in the fast lane, there was traffic in the slow lane. We moved over and the guy flies around us, then shoots over in the slow lane and SLAMS on his brakes. In order to avoid a collision, we hit the brakes and then moved back into the fast lane. The guy flies back over in front of us and SLAMS on the brakes again.

This time, we dropped a gear (our car was a stick), floored it to get around, and he tries running us off the road.

My husband, being the crazy gutsy guy he is, keeps his ground and is driving on the edge of the road (past the white line on the slow lane). I don't think the Prius driver was expecting that, his eyes got kind of huge and his wife was SCREAMING, hanging on to the "oh shit" handle, and smacking this guy with all her might. Lol.

Needless to say, we got around him and just kept on flying down the road to get away from him.

Must have woke up on the wrong side of the bed...sheesh. But honestly, I see a lot of Prius drivers like that lol. They drive 10, 15 under the speed limit and get SO DAMN MAD when you pass them or go around them. Why, I have no idea...

This is nothing to "lol" about. On the contrary, it is this kind of stupid "stand your ground" attitude what gets people in trouble. Your husband demonstrated to be as stupid, if not more, as the other guy.

If you face a driver that is looking for trouble, the only rational way to proceed is to slow down and call 911.

I remember that video....that woman, what a douchebag....

My neighbor has a Prius, and I like to pull his chain with comments like, "...you know how those Prius drivers are....," and he always shoots back some acidic answer. It's all in good fun.

I'm glad my car can overtake most cars with ease. If a prius driver ever did that to me, they would see me go off into the sunset while they they're still accelerating 1mph each second.

I've seen many people drive like this in many different cars. It seems like people just like to pick on the Prius a lot. I don't see it a lot in this area & we don't drive our Prius that way. I drive it less aggressively than I do my MR2 but I still do the speed limit & keep with the pace of traffic. I see way to much road rage from drivers trying to speed & save 2 minutes instead of relaxing on their commute & leaving a few minutes earlier. The speed limit is just that, a limit, you are allowed to do 55 in a 60 if you want too. If not just move to an open lane and pass the slower car.

Stereotyping people based on what they drive makes you a small person. Just because some asshole in a Prius is being a dick doesn't mean they all are. I've dealt with that all the time with different types of cars. Just Today a Fusion cut me off and almost caused an accident. Bad drivers exist in every single car out there.

Statistics is a tool people love to use (or discredit) when trying to get something they want.

We all know what ethnic group have the highest violent crimes based on statistical information compared to other ethnic groups. "Open minded" liberals would say that statistics unfairly labels these people. Yet they use correlated statistics to give the same "disadvantaged" people a boost to get ahead of others who worked for their position.

Stereotypes work the majority of the time.

My stereotype of BMW 3 series and X5 drivers as douche bag assholes is spot on 98% of the time. The only time a 3 series or an X5 isn't driven by ass holes is when they're parked.

And I would reiterate that geography is an important factor as well. For example, what you wrote above about BMW drivers is absolutely 100% true for those owners in Orange County, California, and, hell, all of SoCal too IMHO. Yet travel to some place like upstate New York, Vermont, etc., and it's been my observation that the typical BMW owner in many other locations are simply retirees who can afford a nice car for themselves, and they're indulging that desire and they tend to drive very mellow, very courteously, as opposed to the typical OC a-hole who is 20-40 years old, making his/her I-have-arrived statement to society, and blasting around the streets and highways like the arrogant asses they are. Meh, opinions vary and I'll probably get blasted for that observation, but it's just that...my observation...and I still adhere to the overall psychology of car ownership.

Not meaning to beat an old horse on this, but today I dove a total of 92 miles of the 5 freeway, and I made a point to observe how many Priuses I passed or that passed me. I drove 70 MPH the whole time, and after the first dozen Priuses passed me I stopped counting those and concentrated on the ones I passed. In the end, I did not pass a single Prius, yet the ones that passed me (typically at 75 to 80 MPH) were about two dozen. An excellent example of what I said earlier.

If Prius owners were truly interested in saving gas and/or saving the environment they'd be driving their fuel-sipping cars in a much more economical way. Sure, it's not all Prius drivers, but I still say for the majority the idea behind ownership is more about status/appearance than it is about saving gas or the environment.

If that makes me a "hater," so be it. :dunno:

Many Prius drivers that I know love the fact that they can drive 75-80 mpg & still get 40+ MPG, much better then other cars costing $25k. Others love the fact that they can stick to the speed limit or just under & get 50+ mpg. I only know one that bought their Prius with hopes of saving the planet even though I know those people exist as they do with people buying many hybrid & electric cars.

Could this explain why Prius has a "reputation"?

http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/02/07/60-toyota-prius/
Over the years, white people have gone through a number of official cars. In the 1980s it was the Saab and the Volvo. By the 1990s it was the Volkswagen Jetta or a Subaru 4WD stastion wagon. But these days, there is only one car for white people. One car that defines all that they love: the Toyota Prius.

The Prius might be the most perfect white product ever. It’s expensive, gives the idea that you are helping the environment, and requires no commitment/changes other than money.

The Toyota Prius gets 45 miles per gallon. That’s right, you can drive 45 miles and burn only one gallon of gasoline. So somehow, through marketing or perception, the Prius lets people think that driving their car is GOOD for the environment.

It’s a pretty sweet deal for white people. You can buy a car, continue to drive to work and Barak Obama rallies and feel like you are helping the environment!

Some white people decide to pull the ultimate move. Prius, Apple Sticker on the back, iPod rocking, and Democratic Candidate bumper sticker. Unstoppable!

There are a few ways you can use this to your advantage. If you are carpooling to an event or party you can always say “can we take your Prius? my car doesn’t get good mileage and I feel guilty driving it.” And bam! Free ride!

Also, if you see a white person in a Prius you can say “wow, that’s great to see that you’re doing something for the earth.” The white person will feel very good about themselves and offer to drive you home, to Ikea, or drop you off at 80s night.

And it's no where near as dirty as non-Prius owners would like you to believe. The mining for the nickel is much improved over 5-10 years ago. Scare tactics don't freak me out. The truth is always somewhere in between. Wether you like it or not hybrids are here to stay. People need to stop being haters. ;)

There must be some reason to why there was a South Park episode on smugness.

This whole thread is petty juvenile nonsense. There are good and bad drivers in every brand and every model of car on the road. This tendency to single out one car and say "but those Prius drivers are the worst" is the sort of small minded crap you hear from 15 year old boys in a school locker room.

We already went through this nonsense when calnra tried to claim that all Tesla drivers are bad drivers. It was just as wrong then as it is now.

If we cannot have a little petty fun on the internet, then where can we have a little fun?
So, if we have to be serious all the time, then you have to take down this sig.:

When this baby hits 88 miles an hour, you're gonna see some serious sh*t.

Hehehehehehehe!

This thread was never about fun. It was about insulting and degrading people based on the car they drive. If you find that fun, grow up.

Oh who the hell am I kidding. I'm the one that said Land Cruiser owners are stamp collectors and bird watchers. lol

Seriously though, this notion that everyone who drives a certain kind of car are all bad drivers, it's just ridiculous. I think there are some people here who really believe it and they aren't just funning.

See there! Yeah. We've all seen these different stereotypes. And it is fun to 'Poke the Bear' sometimes.! HeHeHe...

I hope I never have to grow up & be serious & not have any fun. :)
