Has anyone come up with an easy fix for that REDICULOUS XLE sliding console rest?

I'm about to gorilla glue this darn thing! I tried Velcro under the lip but the heat loosened the adhesive. I'm tired of it sliding around, especially when I get an unknowing passenger and they lean on it. I'm not about to spend the big $$$ that Toyota wants to replace it.

I'm driving down the road and hit the brake, it slides forward. I come to a stop sign, it slides forward. I'm driving down the road and the passenger moves, it slides forward. If nothing else, it's very distracting. It seems that I'm always trying to keep it in place.

As far as I understand you do not want it in the forward position.

Can you just slide it back and stick something like a piece of a sand paper or a strip of a emery cloth between the slides to hold the armrest there?

Good luck,

Sam

You are correct, I do not want it forward. I was able to remove the top part from the slide and there is a little metal tab in there that rides on a plastic track, I bent the metal to give it more pressure but it made no difference. I thought that it would give me a more positive latch in the forward or backward position. I think that is what they did on the updated version but the design of this one wouldn't tighten it up.

I never did find a good solution. I tried Velcro, I pulled it completely off and tried to tighten it up, I looked for a place to run a screw through it, nothing worked. I sold the car so my worries are over… lol.

Just a note that "industrial velcro" may work where normal velcro fails.

There is no "fuzzy side" in this type of fastener and the amount of grip it has on each respective side is much stronger. I've used it to hang heavy tools, and it works beautifully and lasts. The important thing, regardless of the type of velcro being used, is to allow the glue on the respective sides plenty of time to set once its been applied. Several days is best. The glue grip is tenuous at the outset and subjecting it to being pulled during the early days often makes it come loose when it might not otherwise.

do this soon with the industrial velcro.
A word to the wise here: Start with way less surface area covered than you think you might need. This stuff has a "death grip" compared to normal velcro, and using too much can make it way more difficult than you had anticipated to actually get the thing open when that's what you wish to do.

I was able to pull the sliding part off when I was trying to figure out a solution. If I remember correctly, I had to force the sliding part up with my hands to get it beyond a stop and it slid all the way off.

Not sure if the console lid is the same, but my '15 Rav4 Ltd had the same problem, I drilled a pilot hole through the track on the underside of the lid and ran a sheet metal screw through both parts to lock them together, worked perfect. My '21 Venza HV has the slider too, but it won't slide unless the latch to open it is pressed, so Toyota must have got the hint the free movement wasn't appreciated.
